Isaiah Papali’i #265

He wants to go, he can go. But whatever club signs him has to compensate us with a similar quality player.

If it's Eels, then they need to give us Paulo, RCG, Brown kinda player etc. Simply put, wherever Papali'i wants to play, he can play as long as we are compensated (not incl $$$ figure).

Similar to Roosters wanting Brandon Smith, Bulldogs wanting JAC early etc... we hold all the cards. No need to panic. A player asks for release, we should just give it as long as we are compensated more than fairly IMO.
Brown swap for Papali a Fair deal? I don't thinks so. The club would look more inept that it is now.

What that lightweight journo Kdouh and her nitwit mate Weidler don't seem to "get" is that WT haven't got to do anything to further "secure" Papalii's services. They already have a 3 year signed deal. It's the player who has to somehow persuade Sheens to let him out of his signed deal if he really wants out. Whatever the club may have done in the past with the likes of Moses and Matterson , I can't see any reason why Sheens would ever agree to this.

The timing of this latest chapter with IPap is a result of extremely bad player manager practice. Legally he has a contract, what can the player say that the manager can’t. That’s what a real player manager is for, to act on behalf of the client.
IPaps i think you have been played by your manager, save face and be a man. You player manager does not have your best interests at heart , the WT do.
perhaps the NRL may pay buck for their "handling" of the Cowgirls affair?
Or will it be "always against the WT"?

It was about the money, not the coach - the Madge fantasy is BS. $275k from Eels vs $600k from Tigers
We chose to LL go to accomodate IP
I have no doubt the Eels have come back to the table now and that is the influence here..
100% it was about the money, IP even said so when he signed, the Madge BS would no doubt be coming from Parra to try get him out of his contract

Rumour has it there is now an Eels contract on the table.
He should have signed on with the Parra (sites) for 250k while he had the chance if he loves it there so much.

You've got to laugh though because he obviously has some knuckle heads and other knuckle draggers in his ear about going to Wests Tigers.

One of those knuckle heads/draggers that have no doubt been in Papali'i's head would be Ryan Whats The Matter Son who demanded a release from Wests Tigers because of the way he was treated by coach Michael Maguire.

Papali'i wants to back out of his Wests Tigers 3 year contract because Michael Maguire is no longer the coach.

You go figure because it is beyond comprehension for me, it's just laughable really.

Now the next question I have is in regards the 2022 World Cup which runs from 15th October until 19th November.

West Tigers have Papali'i on their payroll from 1st November which means that we are taking a bigger risk than normal in that he could suffer a long term injury long after the regular season and final series are over due to the World cup being on this year, a much greater risk than there would be in most other seasons.

Wests Tigers are the ones paying big bucks and taking the biggest risks, so pull your head in mate, your arse is ours.

Could you just imagine if he suffered a serious injury, the reaction from Parramatta.

I can just hear Brad Arthur saying, "Ah no mate, nothing we can do about it brother, you've got a 3 year binding contract with Wests Tigers and there's nuthin' we can do for ya mate."

I think ALL of this cancel contract rubbish is coming from Parra and not Papali. There is a lot of pressure being applied from Parra and in comparison very little from Wests tigers.

What this thread has shown is that the NRL needs to get rid of this signing 12 months out bullshit. For 12 months we have built up expectations around certain players. The club has also performed recruitment and retention based upon certain players, taking a certain % of the cap, filling certain spots. If a change of heart were to occur, it would be devastating to the fanbase and be a disaster for the R&R team. Two windows, one mid season, and one at the conclusion of the regular season, immediate transfer in both cases. Teams can talk to players, negotiations can be begin, but no signings or announcements until the windows open. Retention signings could occur at anytime, thus bringing loyalty back for those that prefer security and/or have their family settled in an area.

Parramatta star Isaiah Papali'i doesn't rule out Tigers backflip as finals approach

Look away, Wests Tigers fans.

Parramatta star Isaiah Papali'i hasn't ruled out a backflip on his to move to Concord, despite signing a three-year deal last November.
The 23-year-old has emerged as one of the game's elite edge forwards in recent years, with his move to the Eels paying huge dividends for New Zealand star.
But a lucrative offer from the Tigers and salary cap pressure at the Eels would see Papali'i announce he would move on in 2023 to link up with Kiwis coach Michael Maguire.
There's only one problem - Maguire has since been sacked by the Tigers and won't be there next year.

Speaking on Nine News on Monday night, Papali'i admitted he was 'rattled' by the Maguire news and it has played a role in him tossing up a backflip.

“Obviously people ask me about it, even on the street or family and friends - but that’s kind of for my manager to look after," he said.
"Even if I don’t stay here or I do go next year, I want to make sure that this year has no regrets.
“I think it was the coaching axing that went on. When I went and did sign, it was talking to Madge and he is an awesome coach.
"It rattled the cage a bit…that was a massive factor for me."

Papali'i averages 139 run metres and 35 tackles per game this year for Parramatta, as well as leading the club for tackle breaks with 77.

But with a huge run into the finals and a World Cup on the horizon, Papali'i is in no rush to make a decision on his future.

“I reckon somewhere in the off-season, because it will just distract me at the moment," he said.
"We have a massive opportunity and I don’t want to leave any stone unturned this year.
"We’ve got a massive run home and I’m really looking forward to it."

Wests have already lost both Luciano Leilua and Luke Garner heading into next year, with their edge forward stocks now relying heavily on Papali'i arriving.

And while the second-rower has been non-committal in his own comments, Tigers chairman Lee Hagipantelis spoke to SEN Breakfast With Vossy And Brandy on Tuesday and shut down suggestions of a backflip.

“We will seek clarification today from his manager, but I don’t put a lot of stock into it," he said.
"What he was trying to say, I think if I’m reading correctly, is that he wants to focus on this year with Parramatta which is fair enough. It’s well known that we enjoy a contractual relationship with Isaiah and we very much look forward to welcoming him to the club in 2023.

"I expect there will be phone calls made this morning for clarification – just to provide an opportunity for Isaiah and his manager to provide a little bit more depth to those comments. We are very comfortable with where we sit.

“If he wanted to say more, I’m sure he will – either himself directly or through his manager. I don’t want to read into his comments and I don’t want to create any angst between the club and the player.

"I’ll try and put the most positive spin on it and say he is focused on the rest of this year."

Parramatta want to be very very careful. They can be sued if they induce Papalii to break his contract with WT

For WT creditable and future success we need to make sure he arrives in November for pre season training with the WT.

Best second rower for the last two years. Give him more money if that is the issue he is worth it.

We need him and Api to lead WT to a new higher standard. To have the best hooker and second rower in the comp is what WT desperately need. The fans need some hope as well.
He can come here and work his arse off and have a red hot go and show he is commited, then we can talk about extra $$ and incentives.

Goof off and we'll ruin your career.
