I agree with you. Personally, I’m happy Sheens is back in the current climate vs an unproven Ciraldo.
Still…he BS’d us with the line he wasn’t ready to coach first grade and signs with Dogs weeks later.
With integrity like that, we don’t need or want him anyway. It’s Ivanesque…
The bigger story here is that Gould has been allowed to run his mouth on various paid platforms, denigrating the Wests Tigers publically, all the while working under his official capacity as the boss of a rival club to attract this coach.
Through his paid gigs on Chanel 9, he has offered expert opinion telling this coach not to come here and that is a massive conflict of interest. He should be removed from Chanel 9 commentary and the Monday night show immediately.
I don't disagree tbh.
The embarrassing factor at this stage is that we were so public with our interest, and fell short.
Pascoe was on national FTA television saying we were confident after making a compelling offer to him - 72 hrs later we had to announce that he'd turned us down.
Still missing half and spine and pack not the bestThey've got kikau and mahoney joining them next year, theyre on the up for sure, maybe not top 4 but id put them into the top 8 next year
Benji?
Yeah, well the embarrassment lies once again with the Tigers heirarchy by shooting their load before the deal was complete. They have form with this with JAC, Latrell, TPJ... Absolute amateurs at times.
Sheens was even guilty of it with Ciraldo.
Still missing half and spine and pack not the best
Mate I'm fairly certain sheens was following direction from board and ceo with ciraldo
With how things played out do you really think sheens wanted ciraldo?
I'd have him over Benji anytime... it's the Farahgate that made everything crash, just imagine a coach knowing how long a contract should a player get or offered and he was actually trying to look after the club but our club sided with the player.... lolMick Potter just said thanks Gus!
Who's head?Heads will explode on here if they get Madge. Gus knows how to get his man.
Doggies will challenge for the title in the next couple.
yea but it is at a cost. It's Gus's way or the highway.Gus gets what Gus wants. He just makes it happen. His track record is of success literally wherever he goes. Barely ever fails, and unlike Bennett doesn't leave them in a mess.
So much for our press release saying "Ciraldo doesn't want to coach in the NRL yet".
I would take Sheens over Gould anytime! For every Belamy (successful assistant coach, that became a successful first grade coach), there's plenty of Barretts, Holbrooks and Obriens (assistants at successful clubs that made them highly desirable). Taking off my Tiger's glasses, the Dogs look the better of the two options for him to succeed at. They have the better side on paper and better facilities, we are starting to catch them in both categories, but they still lead us. Both have a visible top dog, which wouldn't be great for an aspiring coach, I wouldn't think. So the same "con" there. Just wish we hadn't spruiked him, then this wouldn't even be an issue/thing.
Well remember how Gus handled the Ivan situation. He said “it wouldn’t surprise me if Nathan and Ivan were reunited soon”.CC is the highest rated newby coach coming through and deservedly so. He’s worth the gamble and the tigers were right to chase him hard.
But it’s a gamble, he’s had a massive great nursery at penwif, with lots of great talent coming through. It’s the easy way to look good with a great first grade team with tonnes off good juniors but that doesn’t translate to success with another team.
You can see why he went to the poodles compared to us, as they have recruited much better than we have. But as others have said that will mean they will want quick results and a lot of pressure will come his way if they don’t. Unfortunately Gould has handled this situation much better than sheens has, keeping tight lipped about the process is a much smarter way to play the game. But it’s hard as the blowtorch is on our club with the media, and is hard to avoid the scrutiny.
