Isaiah Papali’i #265

And that is what would happen if they let Papalii backflip, bottom clubs like us would get players on contracts 12 months out, and the player would just have that contract as a fallback if everything else fails.
Exactly.

It's not just about us, if the NRL were to allow paps to back out of this deal it creates a situation where players can sign a contract as a negotiation tactic. Sign a contract with a new club and use that as leverage to get a better deal at your current club.

It also allows players to sign a contract as insurance against injury or poor form. If your form improves or your current club finds more money renege and sign with them after guaranteeing your salary with your backup contract.
Players union has stepped in twice before re moses and matterson. We have history with the Eels screwing us.
My point is the Nrl will do what's best for the Nrl.
The onus is on us to to enforce the contract.
Sick of losing a player but receiving a financial compense.
[This word has been automatically removed] that, we need to put our foot down for once.

I believe we have.

Simple. Play for us or enjoy sitting out with no money.
What a ****ing *****

It just doesn’t work like that…
Even if it did - Parra just adjust his contract for 6 months to suit until he gets out

Watching Papalii interview i got two impressions
-is he coming YES he's signed binding contract
- does he wish he hadn't signed it YES as Parra upped their original offer
I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they’ve upgraded his shitty deal this year to get him to flip on next year

Why do the media keep beating on about this ?

1. He signed a contract with the Tigers, No get out clause due to coach etc. even if he doesn't want to be here he will have to honour or sit out 3 years or go back to NZ on compassion

2. Sheens is in charge, he has said Isiah will be at the tigers next year, Sheens is stubborn and an old head cant see him just letting Isiah leave.

3. He is playing in the semi's for the Eels, there is no reason for him talk about next year at all TBH even if he doesn't give us an answer that we like.

If he turns up for pre season he turns up, if he doesn't then good luck to him trying to justify why he wants out of his contract with WT, club has to show some back bone on this one.

He obviously is not keen on coming, he's probably been told by his manager to continue to be flippant and let the media run the offense for them.

Whether the club will show some bloody backbone for a change or not remains to be seen.

But champion @Cultured_Bogan, there's no reason yet to react from the club's perspective.
Contract is binding and any action by WT would only be necessary if the terms of the contract were contravened.

The media asks him like he has a choice in the matter.

The only choice available to him is to play for the Wests Tigers.

If he pulls a stunt like not turning up to pre-season and the relationship becomes untenable, the NRL should issue a ban for the length of his contract and give us the cap space back.

I’m sure this negative media attention has contributed to our recruitment woes to some degree.

I'd be flying the media guy to the World cup with a kit for him to put on and do his first Interview from the very first moment of his contract with us....

That will give us months to sort it if he baulks.

Letting the media run your offensive sounds like a pretty good strategy. Were you ever a ministerial advisor?
