Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Twal isn't a bullocking line breaker or anything like that, but he will be as integral to our success as an impact prop. He tightens the middle and can be relied on to make tackles every time. Defence is every bit important as attack.
Twal is consistent. How many players in our team can you say that about?

I don’t think I’ve ever watched a game and thought he had a poor performance.

Twal averaged nearly 110m per game with ball in hand, only 10m less than Offa. Sure he's not P.Haas, but couple that with the fact that he makes nearly 40 tackles per game and misses less than 1, it's ridiculous that people are questioning the talent this bloke has.
Name one other bloke playing today that can do what Twal does week to week.
I repeat wholehearted and a good tackler but like Joffa certainly not a game breaker. My feeling is we will have to have one or the other, not both. Makes us too pedestrian.

His highs aren't stratospheric, but the difference between his best and worst is minimal.
Or as I have heard it put another way,” he won’t win a game for you, but he won’t lose it either”.
I have been impressed with his involvement in club activities after his concussion.
Seems to have been assisting in a few different things which is a measure of the man.

More than that .. the Turbo Brothers have an exit clause should Des be sacked .. lets offer them top dollar and get the 3 Turbo boys in a package deal .. !!
Hey mate - I read in the paper on Tuesday that, combined, the Turbo brothers signed a $13m dollar deal over 6 years, still 2 years to go. They wanted the "Des clause" in the contract but Manly refused to agree to it.

It was in the SMH so not sure how accurate it was

I'd be worried if i was Hook or O'brien
I think Hook is probably on shakier ground at present because we know ( coz he told us) that O Brien has been in and around premiership winning sides.
Sort of like an interview I heard with the actress Sally Field years ago when someone asked her if she had ever been involved in any wild Hollywood parties etc. She said no, but I’ve been in the vicinity !

Correct - I knew that....
Went OK in his first season at Souths as well yeah?
Took them from 10th or 12th the year before to a prelim yeah?

Had more better years than poor ones no?
Shows how average Madge went with Souths towards the end. Siebold is bang average and took Madges 12th place team to a prelim

Without referencing statistics, my guess is Twal plays more minutes than most middles (he has a great motor). Before he was out with concussion he was coming off the bench at the 20 minute mark and playing the remaining 60 minutes. So whilst Twal makes decent metres, it’s more due to him playing more minutes and as a result taking more runs than most other middles. If you looked at average metres per run I suspect he’d be lower than a lot of the so called impact props. I am not saying there’s not a need for a Twal type player, or that he’s not a decent player, I just wouldn’t confuse his total run metres with him being an impact type player.
