WESTS TIGERS NEARING DEAL TO SEND A 2023 HOME GAME TO NZ
BY SENZ 3 HOURS AGO
The Warriors could be set to play an added game in New Zealand in 2023 according to Stuff NZ.
While the Warriors will play 11 home games in New Zealand for the first time since 2019, they’ll likely get a 12th game at home with the Wests Tigers considering sending one of their fixtures to Hamilton.
The report suggests an agreement is nearing for the Tigers to play their game against the Warriors at FMG Stadium Waikato.
The move comes after the Warriors attempted to lure other clubs across the ditch for 2023 with rugby league fans in New Zealand starved of NRL games since 2020’s COVID outbreak.
The NRL’s fixture is expected to be released in the coming weeks, giving fans in Hamilton plenty of time to prepare if the move is ticked off.
If this move is finalised, the Warriors will officially play nine games at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland and one each in Hamilton, Napier and Wellington.
The Warriors will hope more games at home helps them improve on their 15th-placed 2022 finish where they ended with a win-loss record of 6-18.
