Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Haha 😄 I'll never be embarrassed to share my opinion on here. Just because you have a different view on thing doesn't mean I should change my whole opinion and never post about it.

Pretty disturbing you feel as though people sharing there thoughts on the local Junior we have aho has never played finals could be seen as kicking and screaming 😱.
Hey man I keep getting told this is my first day . How many times have you personally made the same point on this forum . 100 times ? 50 ? 200? And you chase anyone who doesn’t agree with you. I’ve got 6 guys right now coming up at me for disagreeing .
How many people have you chased away because they dared to disagree .
And the funniest thing , Brooks will be here in 2023 , for the 10th. Year in a row . There’s no self reflectance going on . It’s clear as day . After all this time , have none of you wondered what others see ? And not in a critical obnoxious kind of way , But an actual attempt to break bread . It’s page after page of the same guys repeating themselves . I don’t get it …

I don't think that's it.

I think some people are very upset with Luke Brooks and are thus upset that Tigers would consider letting Hastings go rather than Brooks. It's an anti-Brooks thing rather than a pro-Hastings thing.

Anyone who does think Hastings is a good halfback - well Brooks only had #7 on his back 7 times in 2022 and Hastings had it 11 times. So Hastings was our primary halfback the first year we ever won the wooden spoon. That's not to say Hastings can't be a good half in the future, it is to say we played him there and we were terrible.

Therefore the idea of someone suggesting that Newcastle are proving us to be amateurs - I find that laughable. The Knights who are allegedly desperate to get their mitts on either of the two preferred halfbacks of the wooden spooners (doesn't matter which one). Only Newcastle fans could possibly be happy with that, to pitch so low.

Personally I am not fussed if either Hastings or Brooks are let go. We came last in 2022 - it can only be a rebuild in 2023. If Sheens has his mind made up about certain players, so be it.

Personally I also believe Sheens sees Hastings as a ball-playing lock (this has been reported in the media enough) and I am guessing Hastings is not on board with that, that Hastings sees himself as a halfback. I think Hastings was swarmed too often in 2022 once oppositions realised how often he touched the footy in the halves, but Brooks still did most of the kicking, so it was all very predictable.

Bugger-all assists too: Hastings 7 try assists, 4 LB assists in 16 appearances. 0 tries, 10 goals. Brooks was 10 try assists, 12 LB assists, 2 tries, 13 goals in 17 appearances. So if Brooks is abject rubbish, Hastings' measurable output was arguably worse in 2022.

So I still think it's a long-term anti-Brooks thing.
Once again jirskyre great evaluation...the only thing I would add that even though Hastings was suspended.it was then he was settling into the role, the other thing is he had an injury and carried it for quite awhile when playing and may have been restricted in his movements...

If I could dream the perfect scenario it would be the return of Teddy in Sheens last season.

He was the best player we have had since Benji came through I wish the club had a genuine opportunity to get him for the last few years of his career.

Haha 😂
I watched Hastings do exactly the same thing every set . and half the nrl , but it’s definitely a brooks weakness .
What is leadership ? Yelling at your teammates ? Is it also not chasing down the line break from the opposite side of the field . Is it not crunching a rampaging back tower because your help defence is picking daisies inside ? Is it not chasing down other peoples breaks , and being there to support ? If it’s being a dickhead and alienating your teammates on the reg . Then ok . Bear in mind the current Aus halfback / backup can’t win a chook raffle without his fullback . So his leadership sux as well I guess .
The cutout ball doesn’t work in 2022 . The looping ball over the top to an edge attack running onto it , seems to have the most effect .
The short ball is truely an issue . I’m not debating that . But I’d say it’s also one of the only attacking weapons we had last year as well .

But it doesn’t matter what I think . It only matters what the nrl as a collective think and they think he’s a 1 mil halfback .
But no wests tigers forum hive mind disagrees … let’s listen to them ….

Dollar value doesn't automatically translate to performance and to date it hasn't with Brooks Deflecting what he brings by focussing on the weaknesses of others is the story of his career to date. Clubs have been burned by the million + halves before for no result - Ash Taylor and Anthony Milford come to mind. Brooks may jag the dollars but it says nothing about his value to a team until he gets the results on the field. As long suffering supporters we have right to be sceptical.

Newcastle's forum is over the moon they might be getting Hastings over Brooks.. one post even saying that if the deal goes through they'd feel sorry for us.. geez..even other forums are giving it to us..

Who really cares, the Knights are as desperate as us to get success. They are a rabble just like us.

They have been chasing Brooks for a reported 12mths and couldn't get it done by the sounds of things & they threw big money at him.

People keep forgetting that Hastings is being chased by the bottom of the table clubs as the 2nd/3rd choice recruitment target option atm, we need to have a hard look as to why that is the case. If he was good as some on here make it out he would be chased hard by the top 8 clubs rather than next in line behind Brooks and others.

I just don't see Hastings being a halfback at an NRL club and taking them to extended finals success within the NRL within the next few years.

He only claims a premium from the idiots at our club.
Only one club has ever said they were interested in him ...and not at a premium price.
You're dreaming if you think Newcastle will be paying him a million a year.
I said weeks ago I wouldn't be surprised if this was all a smokescreen and they really wanted Hastings.
Seriously ... what use would a half who can't organise a team be to help Ponga in his move to five eighth?
Hastings on the other hand would be great for him.
A million a year ? I like Hastings , but again square pegs in round holes. As ive'e said on this forum many times. Hastings and AD- NAME ME 2 PLAYERS IN THE WHOLE COMP THAT THEY ARE BETTER THEN IN THE HALVES? The answer is none! That is why they are not part of the side going forward. Posts on this forum keep wrapping up players performance, - but against what ? Oh! did you see that great pass! ETC etc. but overlook the other 90% of the game. the bad tackles, the wrong option, and the lack of speed. Aim for the best Tigers, or get used to being a bottom dweller.

I see Hastings as a lock for us. If we're losing him, I don't see a better option or a way for this squad to win matches. Our forward pack is okay, but is not better than half the teams in the league and our outside backs and halves are probably league worst. We need to play the game differently in order to compete and having Hastings, brooks and doueihi together is our best bet. That creates options and creativity other teams don't have.

Hastings proved he could play lock, he didn't look out muscled. I'm not saying he's a world beater but he's on a pretty good contract and is at least our second best creative player, so I hope this speculation is wrong.

Taking Klemmer and his slow old school play on his inflated contract would be a good move for us, as we need a go forward prop like him, but to give up Hastings to do that would severely limit us. I just can't really believe this one can be true. But I've seen the tigers baffle many times before.

Primary thing I'd be thinking about for this year is how can we win games next year? And I would think Hastings at lock is fundamental to that, otherwise we're just a poor version of some other team who does it better and more consistently.

They're both better players at Half than Brooks. Hands down

This is not a forum! It’s 7th grade english . Don’t worry I’m just here for the day . I just felt bad for a few guys on here who were getting targeted the last few days .
And they’re right as well , which makes it all the more better .
