Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

No they need to look at the future and set up their squads accordingly ...took us 5 years to recover from 2005 GF win .....

When you still had minus Prince the best spine in WT's history and still couldn't attract quality forwards excited enough to play with that spine and the junior talent we had ...something isn't right ...is it

And after 2011 and some signing errors ......letting go players who went onto play SOO ......we still haven't played finals

We were equal premiership favourites in 2012

And before someone says we lost Tedesco for the season after 30 minutes ...many on here didn't think he should even get picked

Notice how the top sides are continually thereabouts to the Top 4 and Premierships ......we have had our chances twice now ...and completely and utterly screwed it up ......

Winning the premiership in 2005 closed our minds and hearts to many of our short comings

People now still want a return to that same footy that will fall flat on it's face in the modern game

Move with the future or die in the history ....
You should call yourself unhappy tiger

Ur right we are short in the backs , but sheens had to start somewhere, and we had to clean out our crap forward pack which he has done , all forwards signed for a couple more years so next year the backs will get a overhaul
Regarding the backs , in the interveiw with Adam Hause Tim Sheens specifically mentioned Tommy Talau as playing centre , not in the forward pack. It also appears that API is going to do alot of the team directing & I reckon the other backs will be encouraged to play Sheenball, so hopefully some exciting old style footy to be played by the Tigs this year!

I believe there are more changes to come. Everyone loves Ken Mamaulo and he tries hard but I envisage his future in ESL. He is a Maguire style winger. With Nofoaluma having one wing spot we need far more pace on the other wing. Our halves are thin as well.
I like Ken M but if it means we can land Nathan Brown and Mitchell Moses 2023 then hope he can be moved on.
I really hope Seyfarth can be moved on

To me Bateman at 4 years is not an astute buy especially if we are paying as much as i have heard
The cap just went Up 25%+. Take that into account when you consider what we're paying the new recruits. The 4th year I'm also not sure about but I don't think we've monstrously overpaid anyone signed recently. The two most overpaid players on the 2023 roster are Brooks and Nofa

Is there a war room at Ashfield/Concord similar to the Battle of Britain where the coaching and recruitment team are moving markers on a horizontal plotting chart for the new squad? There are a lot of moving pieces in play at present.

Lamb is not like Benji, Lamb was disliked by a lot of supporters. He was a guy who probably got on well with the players, however, did not get the respect that he should have as a coach. He possibly should of been brought in as an assistant coach. Also, did nothing for our Juniors and lower grades.

Taylor was worse, he was a nightmare, apparently does ok with the Roosters lower grades however showed none of that here.

Whereas Madge, you could see was trying, his passion was there, he attempted to get good players here , they just would not come, they just used us in getting a higher bid. He was successful at other clubs, however those clubs had the cattle.
You're right about Lamb being disliked by alot of supporters. Anyone who supported Balmain despised the bloke. He's a grub who should have been sent off in 1988 for his deliberate cheap shot on Ellery Hanley

Happy, I get what you’re trying to say, but you floored me again with “I think in the long run we would have been better not winning the premiership
Better not winning the GF? Then we’d have nothing to cling to.
I look at the big picture ...sorry

Is Tristan Reilly really as bad as some on here make him out to be?

He didn't look good in reserve grade. I think he was playing in the centres. It appears they are considering him in the halves now.

I suppose we have to wait and see but my expectations are low.

Good point but all the talking heads in the media reckon halves don't start shining till 29 - 30.
Interesting, you could be right. I keep thinking Tom Brady who played till his 40's.

Mitchell Pearce got punted from the knights at 31 years of age and his performance there was better then Brooks here (IMHO). DCE/Cronk ofcourse can play till they are 32 Johns was 37...

Mitchell Moses though is too physical as a 7. Maybe you are right he will go till he is 32, but he doesn't play that Cleary/DCE/Johns nor even Thurston level smarts... Moses runs hard and plays the line more.

BTW I don't want Moses back due to history. I have no problems with him leaving our club but we can leave him alone. Aside from that, unsure how he will be in 2-3 years and can't see him gelling with Brooks magically.

There has been some talk that if MM does come .. Para want 2 outside backs .. we’d be mad to offer our young talent .. but I’m not sure Para would except players like Nofa, Kenny or AD .. ?? What are everyone’s thoughts .. ??

I didn't say it was a failure ...we should have capitalized on those results better ...I think in the long run we would have been better not winning the premiership ...it would of made the club realize we needed to improve ...winning almost hid the ineptitude way the club was still being run ...we won despite all of it
Yeah you did..

“Technically 2005 and 2011 were failures

Good clubs can follow up on success

2005 was followed up by many years of failure

2010-2011 were followed up by many more failures

We have no-one to blame but ourselves”

Again, I get all your following points, just pointing this out for accountability purposes 👍

Just to clarify we were not title favourites.

We had a good side, but lost people. O'dwyer, Fifita and Gibbs.

South Sydney and Bulldogs were stronger, particularly when you account for the team changes we had to make.
Haslier in his wizdom swapped Ennis for Lichaa, Souths Kept Burgess and GI which IMHO would make them favourites for 2012. We clearly were busting cap, but we should have expected better from 2012...

Also the board woke up and realised they needed to think about Football and the coach!
Who is O’Dwyer?

Give them Kepoa (don’t know what people see in him) and Starford Toa (not a first Grader
Wanna keep a fit Ken
Wanna keep Nofa

With Paps, and Bateman, attacking on the edges, this should create plenty of opportunities, for the halves and fullback. But the side will need time to gel, we have four new forwards, maybe a new fullback, and maybe a new half combination. Plus four new coaches, it will take time.
I expect a few shocks, to most peoples expectations, and more then 2 or 3 major changes to the 2024 roster.
Spot on. We will have improvement but 2024 is where it's at.
