Food thread

I am so old i can remember a time when there were no fast food chains here only fish and chip shops hamburger places and the obligotory chinese restaurant in most towns and suburbs. If you were lucky enough to have an Italian restaurant nearby or even less likely a French one you were blessed.
Thank goodness there are so many more options these days
Im so old I remember when the Golden Fleece was the real OG

Butter chicken London brother

I thought that but just googled.

Butter chicken/Place of origin
India

The dish originated in northern India, in Amritsar, to be exact. Legend has it that chefs there made chicken tikka with heavy amounts of butter to stay true to their Punjabi roots. But they didn't stop there: They added more butter as a garnish and called it butter chicken (or murgh makhani).25 Apr 2022

Never knew of this! About 2-3 decades before I was even born! But they look really nice 👍
lol, @Tucker said it best, basically all we knew before this new fandangle McDonalds and Kentucky Fried hit the land in the early to mid 70s. I don't even remember Maccas being a big thing until the mid 80s, certainly exploded from than on anyway, they popped up all over the place.

Golden Fleece was a servo, like Shell, BP etc and then they had the bright idea to turn some into roadhouse restaurants, wasnt good, wasnt bad, it just was. Got bought out by Caltex in the early 80s. Ive still got a menu packed away in the draw somewhere lol. My grandfather used to drive tankers for them. Wish I knew back then how much all the golden fleece stuff would be worth today. Id be a multi-squillionaire.

Found a menu online, T-Bone, chips and salad $7.50, most expensive thing on the menu. I reckon that was pretty steep for 50 years ago now I think about it. Must have been the city prices. I remember getting a full spread for one of these.

Yes, I do like a chicken Kiev. I imagine the cuisine is classified as European? If you asked an Australia to name a traditional Aussie dish it would more likely include lamb or seafood I’m guessing?
Pavlova?

They weren’t really.
Good place to get a feed after a night on the squirt.
Food tasted good as you were drunk lol
Do you remember Maccas McFeast with the old red sauce. They were huge compared to today, my fav fast food burger.
I got a bacon deluxe from hungry jacks yesterday and it was the size of a fifty cent piece. Meat was like processed meat and sawdust or cardboard.

Think how healthy that was since it would have had no calories.Sadly far too many of the large food chains seem to have the same sort of "food" these days

Are you sure it was meat?
