Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Most clubs have about half dozen budget buys in their top 30. Thats how they stay cap compliant. Our lastest signing gives us some half coverage and I would guess he is cheap. Of course there are a couple of clubs who don’t seem to have these budget players

I don't know, it's an odd signing for me. We have Will Smith who is a much better first grader then Wakeham. If Brooks gets hurt, a makeshift Laurie or Smith provides a lot more IMO.

Waste of a roster spot if it's top 30. If it's NSW cup contract then fair enough
Neither Laurie, Smith or someone like Simpkin is a halfback though! You can't just replace a half with a 5/8.

And while sure some would say Brooks isn't a halfback, to which i'd somewhat agree, but he has been our organiser and kicker in general play for the past decade. There was always going to be a backup half that can put in kicks on the last tackle etc. Smith and Laurie can't kick, ot a least there's no evidence to date that they can.

I think the club is flogging $2 shop gear from Wish on Facebook to pay his contract. Close to unfollowing them.

All you have to do is work your way through our top 29 + development + pathways players and see the yawning halves gap you find.
We have just three (yep 3) genuine halves and that includes big D (who in my opinion is a centre) and Smith who is not eligible for 1st grade until round 11.
Every time we fill a gap with a mediocre player it limits our ability somewhat to sign a marquee player. These are the spots that we need our juniors to start to fill if we want to compete with the elite clubs.

I disagree with this way of thinking. You can use a makeshift half as back up if that player is likely to do a better job then the specialist back up. Smith and Laurie both can kick, Laurie actually has the best short kicking game in the club.

For me he is one of those players you love to hate, and now I find him in our colours. Good luck to the young man if he gets an opportunity hope he makes the most of it.

Who does everyone honestly we expect as backup half? Moses? Hunt? An elite player isn’t going to come be a backup half to Brooks & AD lol especially not a club that just got the spoon. I think everyone needs to be a bit more realistic.
I was honestly hoping our backup half would be Brooks and we'd sign someone capable of playing the position at an NRL level

Tigers did already sign Will Smith, who has been known a five-eighth on some occasion.

But yeh, hypothetically Brooks/AD go down this season our least worst option would probably have Laurie to 7/6, while Smith slots to fullback. Wakeham is at least a minor upgrade from Madden.
Stains to fullback you mean.
