Mitchell Pearce

That’s what Bateman said too. 😜
He has a player option for 24. WT were chasing Pearce late last year and dropped off because of his injury which had him miss the first 5 rounds.
I think he’d love the opportunity to play LO in Tigers colours.

I doubt that he does want to play for us.Pearce always stated that he did not want to play for his fathers club because of the expectations involved in him doing so.Certainly it is Wests as compared to Balmain but it is still partly based on the club where his father played and is exactly the same club his father coached.

Why Mitchell Pearce said no to Benji Marshall and the Wests Tigers

Mitchell Pearce has confirmed he received a phone call from Wests Tigers assistant coach Benji Marshall on Wednesday around making a shock NRL comeback – but knocked him back.

The phone call indicates a complete breakdown in communications on the Wests Tigers’ coaching staff following claims by head coach Tim Sheens they were not interested in Pearce.

In a text message to News Corp from France, Pearce said: “I don’t really have much to say. Benji called me yesterday and I told him I’m contracted to Catalans.

“We are top of the table and I want to win a comp in Super League. That’s pretty much it.”

The story broke on NRL 360 on Fox Sports on Wednesday night that the desperate Wests Tigers were chasing the former premiership winning halfback.

Pearce turns 34 next week.

Sheens had earlier told journalists the club had no interest in Pearce.

And then Benji jumps on the phone to make an offer.

As one insider suggested: “They don’t appear to be on the same page.”

We tried to contact Sheens on Thursday morning about the situation via a text message.

“Good morning Tim. Just looking for clarity for the story I’m writing on Mitchell Pearce. Benji phoned Mitchell yesterday but you’ve told people you’re not interested in him. What’s the story? Thanks Buzz.”

He did not come back to us.

It was reported last night that Pearce would be offered a staggering $1.5 million over two years to return home to the NRL.

The news is also unsettling for under siege halfback Luke Brooks, knowing Benji is looking at other options because of his poor start to the season.
I'm pretty sure this is just a re-do of the story from just before christmas we he rejected our offer .. when we tried to secure his services then .. but now we have up'd our offer with more money .. $$ .. as they say .. money talks .. ;-)

He’s not a kid making his way anymore. He’s at the end of his career and presented with an opportunity to honour his father and grandad. He’s achieved everything else in the game, no point carrying this one regret beyond next year.
Who knows? He may join Benji’s coaching team?

34 next week mate and 35 next year when we would have signed him. It's a retirement package.

Sexton is 22 and already ahead of Brooks/AD. He's without a doubt a better option than a broken down 35 year old halfback.

You obviously have an agenda against Amone, but he's 20 and had more try assists than Brooks and AD combined last year.
Sexton ain't the answer, not saying I know who is, but I know he isn't.

I'm all for looking at an alternative for halfback, but I won't conflate that for absolute desperation for a guy who's effectively been on a French vacation and right at the death of his career. I doubt he'd be any worse than Brooks, but I am not sure he'd be any better, I'd prefer we just persist with Wakeham if that's the best we can do.

Comical tigers negotiating

Sheens says no

Benji gets caught calling

Why wouldn let you just ask Wayne Pearce to give his son a call to see if he’d be interested?

And then we could say we haven’t spoken to him

It’s like the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard
The only good thing to take from that is that Benji has seen enough of Brooks to decide he is not the answer

Pearce says he aint coming . Time to end this Brooks is a dead man walking bite the bullet - Wakeham at half , Douehi 5/8 & Brooks to centre (Jimmy the Jet type) . The Brooks experiment is OVER.
Nope drop him altogether and see if you can trade him. Even if we got 400k out of the deal itl be worth it. Time to move on. Nofo, Brooks, Pascoe and anyone involved from the last 5 years.

7. Trindall
6. Tracey
1. Blake Taafe.

Surely it's not that hard to get reserve graders here. Trindall resigned so assume he will go to the halves. Still.

The only good thing out of that was sheens not replying to that drunken maggot

Man, Benji going behind Sheen's back. Brings back memories.

I actually don't mind it if Benji has identified Brooks as an issue and Sheens wont listen so he took it on himself to do something.
Gives me a glimmer of hope

Very true my friend

The only concern was Hoops on 360 saying a verbal deal was done for next year which is why he didn’t go to Newy

I can believe that too… Brooks would’ve wanted certainty and Tigers would’ve said “we can’t extend now, let’s wait till the bye after we’ve won a few games with our exciting new brand of footy”….

Cue crickets and awkwardness of the shitty admin we have that don’t plan for worse outcomes

Like my email to Justin when Hastings left… “it’s likely we may not have a great start to the season and the pressure on brooks and the club will be intense… what then”?

I only got back - “we act in the best interest of the club”

Go Fck yourself !

Mitchell Pearce at 7 would be awesome for the tigers we need real help I'd like to see Daine Laurie back at 1 or give him a go at 6 I reckon he'd kill it there I'm not sure why he's being dropped
G'day @tomhanks ....Great to see we have a fair dinkum celebrity on Our Forum now  :giggle: and none other than my equal fav. actor....... along with Clint Eastwood.

Titans fans are still in denial about Jamal Fogarty not being a good player. Raiders looked terrible without him last week, but I'd back them to have a better showing this week despite playing Penrith.
Yep no doubt he was a loss for them, it seems crazy to me how few halfbacks are available right now. Can this all be blamed on covid delaying the progression of junior players?

Someone somewhere recently suggested Brooksie could go ok at fullback, and I reckon he has all the attributes to make a good one except of course not being an ideal height.

Tom Brady has retired from American Football now, why dont we get him.
Now here's a bloke that knows how to pass a ball accurately and what a great drawcard he would be :giggle:
