Luke Brooks #167

he could be here as a 6 with Shaun Johnson at 7
or as a 7 with Schuster at 6
or sezer at 7 Brooks at 6
7. Ben Hunt 6. Brooks
plenty of options or not here at all
7. johnson 6. schuster
7. Hunt 6. schuster

Just saying Flanagan ain't an upgrade
Wakeham at 7, Brooks 6 is an upgrade

I would laugh if Brooks rejected our offer. However, they would be tears of joy and signify that WT had finally hit rock bottom by being punted by the puntee. Unfortunately that will never happen. Other than Sheens, Brooks' family and a couple of random fan boys (who until recently had gone AWOL much like their hero does when a game is on the line) there is no remaining interest in our stinky boy.

If we offer market value, he leaves and we don’t sign someone then we are worse off.

That’s when I’ll laugh.

Club has tried to replace him but our recruitment is a steaming pile under Pascoe.
I wondered who was to blame, you say it’s Pascoe.
No mate it’s the whole joint. he’s just one link in a horribly rusted chain.
I am really starting to question our future, and that’s something I’ve never done before.
Just not sure where we go from here ?

It's ok if you are a "Brooks Basher" or a "Brooks Supporter". Who cares either way?

Is Brooks part of the problem? Yes.

Is Brooks THE problem? No.

The ridiculous drum beating that any or all reserve grade halves are an immediate upgrade over Brooks is laughable.

Brooks playing at 6 or 7 is nearly irrelevant. Case in point= Cody Walker is the playmaking heartbeat of Souths at #6. Cliff Lyons. Scott Hill. Foran. Jason Smith.

Brooks just needs to be the complimentary halves partner. Like Benji was to Prince. Like Toovey was to Lyons (want a player comparison? Toovey & Brooks are remarkably similar players skillset wise).

Elite playmakers are not easy to come by. It's not like teams are happy to lose them. You generally need to either overpay, buy very early or take a swing on potential....or develop your own. We swung for Moses & Munster. Pearce & Johnson. Those were your proven options. It might be time to swing for potential. Schuster seems the obvious option. And you wait patiently for the youngsters to develop.

Good post mate .
The question I always ask is, “is Brooks, and several of our other players, part of the solution” and I would have to say no, therefore they should be released, whatever the consequences.
If no one is to be brought in, then as you say we develop our own and at some stage may have to throw them in the deep end( sink or swim).

I hear and see every one’s opinion of Brooks and re signing him , but if we don’t at this point with no one coming we will be worse off , Sheens would know this hence keeping Brooks , but Brooks may opt out and go to another club , if this happens , we are screwed as we have no 6 or 7 , Brooks with a Hunt or similar will go well , Brooks and a young 18 year old from lower grades won’t work , All out on Hunt in my opinion 2 years or 2 & 1/2 now , we have the pack to match 95% of any team we play , we just need a creative go forward attacking half ( Hunt ) he has held the dragons on his shoulders every game and they are average , Hunt with our pack ✅ opposition have 2 players to watch instead of one

Great post, Schuster Brooks combo would definitely create more points.

Its the board that's responsible. If it was Pascoe then the board would sack him.
Those blokes on the board have NFI
They are responsible for the whole set up

Agree, and now that Johnson has officially nocked back our offer the focus of the club is turning to keeping Brooksy.
I personally think the club has been neglectful in chasing other halves who don’t want to come here and go through what Brooks has had to endure.
The club should have been more respectful.
I suppose they’re now going to lowball him?
I don’t think anyone would have thought Johnson would sign with us? So why offer him $650k?
We’re they setting a benchmark? I think Brooks is worth slightly more?

LB has already agreed to terms with the club

They wanted to announce it at the last bye but we hadn’t won any games and there was too much pressure on admin

Listen to Sheens today - he said Brooks is here next year - and then had to back track and said it would be done this bye

They wouldn’t have been able to stop LB from going to newy if they didn’t promise him a deal … it’s logical

Which is why I wanted us to lose 10 games in a row

I said this would happen

We win 2 games and now they have an excuse to make his extension official

The best thing is if we lose tomorrow that we get absolutely hammered and brooks plays terrible … only that might stop an extension … or at worst when things don’t work out will make people say we were wrong for extending a player when we were coming last

I could never hope for my club to lose even if it meant 2 of the largest problems at the club were forced out of the club,we would still be stuck with the stooges at board level
