What team runs the clock down on THEMSELVES!
Even with that dumbarse play there were 3 better chances to try for the field goal before Brooks tried the impossible.
That was our season gone last night on sheer stupidity.

I don't blame Paps, he's in a tough spot in the heat of the moment you have to try and stop the field goal, can't fault him for trying to block it. Once he dived he was in mid air and it was obvious there wasn't any intent to contact his legs but once he's in the air he can't fly and change direction. The loss wasn't his fault, I blame our wasted possession in the first half and the referee. If Sutton does his job from the start and doesn't allow Canberra to lay all over us and slow the play the ball down we win. If he opened his eyes and penalised the push in the back to Brooks on the Raiders try we win. The guys a deadset Muppet.

Other teams have worked out that we have a big forward pack that like to roll forward and put teams on the back foot, we then shift to the halves and look for weaknesses in a retreating line - hence Canberra’s continual laying in the ruck. It was a blatant tactic that nullified our attacking structure.

When we couldn’t get a ruck advantage, we did go side to side but Canberra’s line was set. Even then we had 4 line breaks to 0 by half time.

Still very proud of the team. I think where we were 12 months ago and we’ve come such a long way. May not make the finals this year but we are a real threat to all teams across the board.

Short kick offs... bring Tupou, Talau and Bula up to the line. Pretty sure Brooks, Api and a few others are able to cover the rest of the field.

Watching the replay we knocked it back, go up with 2 hands and catch it

It makes it really difficult to attack effectively if the opposing team consistently holds down the team in the ruck - that's why teams get penalised for it. The third man in with the leg lifting also slowed down the play. Sutton was aware of it but didn't feel.the need to act on it till the game was just about out of our grasp.
We did well to get the line breaks we did but failed in converting them.
Their kicking game was good and their effort plays got them over the line.

Another great effort, cant knock the boys! Watching the replay at the end Pole was probably coming back to middle for a field goal but i wish he passed it to Kepoa, Star was screaming for it with Noffa unmarked.

Another tough loss to take last night but isn't it good to finally have a competitive footy team. The coaching staff have turned this joint around. I actually feel like we can give all teams a run now as opposed to the last few miserable years.

I think that's what brooks was pointing to as well getting it right , got a bit unorganized there sadly but c'est la vie

That 5 minutes patch of footy will have to hold me over. Just wish we could have gotten the 2 points.

That is a fair recount on what happened, although quite pessimistic. The other side is the ref and video peanut allowed a blatant push in the back on brooks to go unpunished, that led to a try. I believe a shoulder in the back of tupou as he was taking a bomb without looking at the ball once, that led to a try (no difference to the Walsh incident the other nite).
Not to mention 8 continual ruck infringements on their line that only gave them a sinbin late in the game! Which was an obvious tactic to stop our roll on. And the fact that we won every single stat in the game except kick meters. The fact thet every try they scored came off kicks, with a strong element of luck involved! I think that is the reality, of a team coming off a wooden spooners we did pretty good. Could we do better, sure but again remember they had won 6 from the last 7 games.

Canberra were woeful and were there to be beaten last night.
Im not pessimistic, I have just put the rose coloured glasses away after watching WT teams for over a decade fail to win football games.
Edit: if we execute better we don’t need to lament the refereeing.

Good numbers and a great team effort to not give up , just need a crafty attacking half beside brooks and a solid centre we are right there , just need points regularly

You dont need to tackle the player to draw a penalty. The responsibility falls to the defender ALWAYS!!!! All you need to do is make contact with the legs. Ice did. Penalty awarded. The rule is one of the most black and white in the rulebook and is always judged as such. Whether it was intentional or not it doesn't matter.

I'd really like to know what part of this you don't get?

The guy had both feet on the ground, the momentum was pretty much over from Ice, and there was no movement from his arms to tackle the player he was simply bracing himself after falling to the ground. - but my point stands - once we lost our challenge the ref knows he can change the game at his whim. Fogarty to his credit never went down, like the wimp Feldt. It was simply not worthy of a penalty.

After waking up this morning, im still pissed off after last night's result. As exciting as the last 10mins was, we still can't let teams get 18 points ahead of us and pray for a hail mary series of events for a comeback. The first 70 mins was still rubbish and needs to be tidied up.
