Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The club need to let Fulton work with the player managers. He was hired because we have failed to build relationships for a very long time. The coach should ultimately get final say on the player not the contract value or term. On face value Benji calls no to schuster on 1m and sezer over Cogger are the right ones in my view.

Fulton should be lining up player A, B, C, D in line with needs and getting buy in from coaches and management. It’s not rocket science.

The more I see this play out Benji, Fulton and Holbrook seems likely to me. Sheens will be sidelined or left out and Pascoe will be the scapegoat deservedly so. Lees words gave me that impression and it’s become evident Lee is a true chairman of a board not an executive chairman that runs anything footy related.

For what is worth and I mentioned it yesterday - Benji shouldn't have last say in signings.

He's a rookie coach and will have enough on his plate.

Too often we've been screwed over coz a coach has been centre of the recruitment universe.
I disagree. The coach will live or die on recruitment choices and how they get them to integrate within the team.
If your recruitment manager can do whatever he wants, we’ll end up with another bag full of blokes who cannot form a team.
What if Benji wants a team of ultra quick, ballplaying, attacking dynamos and Fulton recruits a bunch of plodders in attack who are very solid defenders?
Coach MUST give the directive. Lee confirmed what a lot of us are saying…Fulton is there to help the coaches and do as they require.

Sheens will resume his role of Director of Football.

John Bateman has never been on a team that has received a wooden spoon, and he doesn’t intend to give up that record this year.
In the England international’s first season at the Wests Tigers, the club has been plagued by off-field turmoil, on-field shortcomings and an ANZAC Day jersey bungle. But if they are to turn things around, Thursday night’s clash against fellow strugglers the Dragons is the place to start, said Bateman.
“It’s been tough times,” Bateman said. “We haven’t been able to get a win and stuff like that. To me, obviously, I think you watch me week in and week out, and I’m pretty competitive - I want to go out there and get the win.
“It’s a massive, massive week for us this week, obviously, playing the Dragons just above us. And no doubt about it, no one wants to finish at the bottom of the league, so that’s the exact same for ourselves. We need to go out there and get the win this weekend.”

With 206 Super League games under his belt, and a 2019 grand final appearance with the Canberra Raiders, Bateman has had his fair share of success. But never has he been part of a team that’s finished at the bottom of the ladder.
“Never. I don’t want to either. As simple as that,” Bateman said.

The Tigers have won just three of their 17 games this year and sit last on the ladder with just seven weeks to go. Injuries to skipper Api Koroisau and Luke Brooks further derailed their season.
“It’s about working hard. Things aren’t going well for us this year, obviously injuries, etcetera. We put a decent little patch together throughout the year, but we’ve just for some reason not been getting the wins over the line,” Bateman said. “The last couple of weeks have not been acceptable as a playing standard and as a club.”

Off-field drama at the club was close to breaking point on Sunday, with tension between assistant coach Benji Marshall and recruitment manager Scott Fulton continuing to highlight the lack of cohesion at the joint venture.
Marshall’s manager was moved to deny what he believed was a suggestion his client owned a share in the management company trying to lure Aidan Sezer to the club.
But Bateman said the team weren’t bothered by the ructions in the front office.
“You hear whispers. We [the team] had a little bit of a chat this morning, and that is literally the first I’ve heard about it,” Bateman said.

“That’s not my job at the end of the day. My job is on the field, and at the moment, we’re not doing our jobs, so we need to focus on that. When the noise surrounds certain areas and stuff, that’s [for] the people in the board area. They need to sort that out.
“The boys are a bit blase about it all - like you’ve got to be in this game. Obviously, you can’t let stuff get to you because if you do that, you’re too busy worrying about that than worrying about what our job is.”

Agree with all above.

The best outcome.

Lol absolutely ridiculous, some of you are giving these commentators way too much credit.
How is he going to get anyone he has only ever done it before for a few months at Manly and got the sack he's a no one never will be and ended up at the Tiger's because there was no better offer

Definitely sounded like Braith and Benji have had some conversations in the background.

First time in a long while I've agreed with braith.

Some telling points;

- Said any back would look good in Penny's system (Re:Cogger)
- Implied Latu 'Hype' might be an exaggeration/overdone
- Suggested Sezer (Benjis call) was a good signing given the situation
- Rubbished the claim that Fulton Was the best recruiter out there (Lee's claim) - based on manly current position and the fact that Fulton Was in his 1st year of top 30 recruitment
- Then ridiculed Manlys Signing of Schuster for 800k / and then scoffed at the suggested he was worth 1.2mil (Assumeb this is what he was after to come to the tigers) - Fulton's pick and hence another dig at Scott

Looks like they're gonna have to hitch their wagons to the benji train
Not sure of your connection, but I’ve wondered since the beginning whether Benji is his own man and whether or not the mentoring he received under Uncle Wayne has got him on a different philosophy/ strategy to one Sheens brought him up with?

How's that going for us?
Not good.
In fairness we gave Maguire a decent chance to get it right and despite being a good coach and man manager, he couldn’t manage to get our recruitment & retention right. Therefore surely we give Benji a couple of seasons to try and turn it around ?
I know it’s frustrating for all our fans, but every time a new coach is appointed it’s basically starting from scratch.

Thing is that it made sense.. everyone is bagging Lee and I usually do but I thought he did ok tonight. At least he showed some passion .. benji seems to have a vision and Braith appears to have bought in .. hopefully Scott will and things can flow from here

The way I now see the Fainu brother situation is we are keen to recruit them but won’t be held to ransom and overpay to the detriment of our young pathway guns. Both have potential but are unproven.

Lachlan Galvin, Heath Mason, Chris Faagutu, Kit Laulilii may all turn out better players than the Fainus. We shouldn’t be paying them ‘significantly’ more than those guys.

However in saying that we have to also consider that signing them does send a message that we can recruit super talent from other clubs.

I don't know why but latu reminds me of young benji.
