I would say it was his idea and he spent days preparing for it.
His answers were supplied too quickly. It was like he was reading from a script. I’ve been grilled by multiple people at the same time before and it does get you flustered. It is designed to. That way we often see some raw truth leak out. Lee was pretty calm and measured. He had an immediate answer for everything, which is usually a very good sign of a classic bullshit artist. Braith and Read even said as much once the interview was done. Very polished and rehearsed.
I also thought it was a calculated move to keep blaming the board. It absolved he and Pascoe. Additionally, blaming the board gives us a faceless bad guy. Which members of the board in particular voted certain ways?
Lastly, I feel he let something slip at the end there… He said that Fulton’s job was to get the players signed who the coaches wanted. Therefore, within the Wests Tigers corporate structure, the Recruitment Manager is a direct report to the Head Coach, as we suspected. Now the narrative has been that certain player managers don’t trust Benji but do trust Fulton. Both have been in their jobs less than a year. That tells me that the player managers see Fulton as the weaker target and Benji is showing strength. That’s a good thing for the club, as like Lee stated, the coach has the final say. I think it is very possible that Fulton is the corrupt one, not Benji as Peter Peters tried to label him.
