Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

One I’d love us to get is contracted with the Sharks until the end of 2025, but would only be on a bare minimum contact and not much chance of breaking into the Sharks top 13 anytime soon is Sam Stonestreet. He’s the prototype winger being tall, strong and fast,
Oh I wish.

A few possibilities spring to mind, but it does not appear we have any capacity to recruit outside backs unless we somehow get other teams to take on a few of ours that are currently contracted for 2024.
Bevan French is apparently keen to come back to Australia , he’s quick, a great finisher, safe under the high ball and can play a few different positions. He’d be great at the right price.
Some others have mentioned Thomas Jenkins from the Panthers. He’s a prolific try scorer in the lower grades and has decent size, height and pace.

Edward Kosi is a giant winger still contracted to the Warriors and has played well when used at NRL level.
He does not look like getting back in their starting 13 when they are full strength and they have RTS as another outside back for next season.
The Raiders have a few they are not using at NRL level that could help us.
Xavier Savage, Harley Smith-Shields and James Schiller. All are fast and run the ball with positive intent.
Mawene Hiroti another from the Sharks.
He is off contract, always plays well at NRL level as he did on the weekend against Souths and kicks goals quite well too.
Jackson Ferris from Manly also off contract and has been in great tackle busting, line breaking, try scoring b form in NSW Cup. He also made a positive impression as a centre playing NRL for the Sharks a few years back and I think he’s had some injury riddled seasons since, but seems back to his best now.
Some experience would be good. Maybe Bevan French could be a good target as a centre/wing. Not overly big at under 90kg but fast, elusive, skillful & good defence (hopefully a mate of John Bateman).

Mawene Hiroti could be a good budget wing option who is a very good goalkicker, can also play centre & fullback, and would have learnt a lot from the Souths & Sharks systems.

I’m hoping Justin Olam becomes a target of ours with his experience & strike just what we need and would help mentor Jimmy Ngutlik (have our own Kumul combo).

Tom Jenkins a yes from what I have seen & read.

Kaeo Weekes is also a former sub-11second 100m sprinter who could be a Fulton target. I wonder whether he has ever played wing.

Being new to the club Api took a little time to transition into the leadership role. He has taken all the pressure off Brooks by leading on the field, and you can see him communicating plays. He has been the best buy the club has made in a long time and the irony is he is the perfect foil for Brooks - who can now afford to play some eyes up footy - had he decided to stick.
Hard to believe that we recruited well, all of the big-name recruits are playing good - one of them is up there with the best in his position - and we are still coming dead last. It really highlights how bad our squad is and how poorly coached they were.

One area we really struggle and need recruitment are wingers with speed that can finish and get the ball out of our own end. Nofa is worn down hasn’t got speed and Tupou isn’t quick and probably best suited at centre over the long term. We lack pace.
True….to add we are lacking height and pace. 2 critical factors required for success. With short kick offs and drop outs, the game has gone past having 2 midgets out wide. That is why we struggle in this area. Would love to have one beast with speed who can run through what ever is in front of him and the other with height and speed, to get over the defence as required. Adds to the attacking options, which now we don’t have. But just my humble opinion!

I'm fairly sure Kaeo Weekes was being looked at.

Without putting too fine of a point on it……no shit.
Who do you have in mind?

More, Nofa $525k, Cotric $650k, I saw the top 10 winger salaries the other day, Nofa was 6th, Cotric 3rd. DWZ was 1st with $800k
DWZ was 800K?

How and Why.. I would have imagine Brian T'oo would be up there on some serious coin.

Haas rejecting that $1.16m 5 year deal to go to the market.

I’ve mentioned a few times now Haas will go to the highest bidder, I know this from pretty good mail.

That highest bidder very well may be us…

I'd love to have him here. I know he is in the position where we are probably strongest but he is probably the best prop of all time and he makes a difference.

In order to bring in new wingers, we need to move the current ones. There's only so many spots left in the 30.

The fact Luaili'i was on the extended bench might indicate he's closer to being in the mix.

Nofa looked noticeably slow in the open. However, it wasn't his worst performance, and I don't think he's ever really been a flier. I'm just concerned there are more poor games in him than ever before.

Staines is probably our best winger. And he's not great. But our best. If Tupou moves into the centres, we need a metre gainer added. Size & speed. And the ability to catch.

Keio Weekes offers speed & can catch. But, he's kind of small. Dean Ieremia from the Storm is similar. Fast, plays fullback, but more Nofa size. Lumelume from Parramatta is your bigger body, but he's only been a fringe player to this point. Hiroti from the Sharks has the body size. Awkward player though, neither fast or overly strong, but he kind of is a bit of both. Tuimalo Vaega from Manly is a bit of a hot head. Hard hitter. Not sure about his hands, but might not be the worst option. I'm still thinking Hymel Hunt. Big body, strong, good defender. And can play in the centres if Tupou moves back out to the wing. Jenkins from the Panthers isn't the worst option.

Tuimalo-Vaega & Hunt together would stiffen one of our edges.

Just got back from Soccer WC game where England got out of jail and was thinking I would be reading about some signings or at least what the club has done with the last spot in top 30.

Does anyone know if that was announced?

Agree with Sam Stonestreet have watched him a few times now and think he has it, would be good in any team he plays in.

Agree with a few on the forum that we need a winger with speed. Would love to see us use Simpkin as trade bait in the offseason to grab a winger with speed.

Someone like Savage or Saab would be good targets as both Canberra and Manly need a long term 9. Saab may be a long shot, but he is a Tartak client and a Tigers junior who still turns up to a few clinics for his junior club.

Using Simpkin as bait is like fishing with a rock attached to a line as bait.
