OFFICIAL Sheens gone

In 2020 Kevin Walters coached an ordinary side, they ran last and copped many more floggings than what Wests Tigers did in 2023.
Three years later Kevin Walters is coaching a very good top 2 side which are every chance of winning the 2023 Grand Final.
So in 3 years has Kevin Walters gone from a coaching dunce to a coaching genius, or could it be that almost any half decent coach will get great results with the right playing roster ?
We don't have

Haas
Walsh
Reynolds
Carrigan
Flegler
Staggs
Farnworth
Who'd I miss

There’s a slight difference I’m afraid. They are the Broncos. We’re the Tigers

What are Billy Slaters, Cameron Smith and Cooper Cronks....
Those are leaders that won't tolerate mediocrity...

My point? I thought it was clear....
A 50% winning record would be considered by most mediocre (at best) - If not below mediocre.

My response was to them NOT tolerating mediocrity - They tolerated it during their career here...
What are the key indicators moving forward they won't tolerate it further?
I think if Robbie and Benji were happy with mediocrity they would have been fine with their ambassador roles and club legend status for life and stuck to their business ventures and foxsports gigs and holidays etc

But they didn't, they want success for the club and they want to drive that forward.

The win stats and success and leadership for the Melbourne boys remember were categorically inflated by cheating.

I don't entirely diagree with you , we all want less mediocrity...I think it's pascoe and Lee

The gaslighting of Benji as an inexperienced coach is ridiculous. 2 spoons on the back of a Maguire lead team and a Sheens lead team both massive experienced coaches. Let the dude coach the bloody team before the daggers come out. The only focus the media should have is on the 2 jerk offs in the back office and pressuring them to fark right off.
Here Here "The Sniffer" exactly my thoughts couldn't have said it any better.

Morris in as assistant will be great. He's a great coach but doesn't have the media pull that Benji does.

If Furner is out as Assistant Coach I would go with Dean Pay for defence. Despite a much more average Dogs roster than Barrett or Ciraldo, his team's actually had some heart and could defend. Just didn't have class or talent.
I want us to keep Furner. Other than that dreaded Cowboys game and the Broncos one, we haven't been terrible. It would be fair to give him another year to see if he can improve us again.

Benji along with Farah are so far the two greatest ever Wests Tigers players bar none, surely nobody can argue with that ?
Benji and Farah don’t need the Wests Tigers, they are both passionate about the club they won a premiership with and will pour their heart and soul into getting the best possible results as soon as possible.
Nobody can deny Benji was an elite player of his generation and looked up to as a role model by many, including quite a few of the current and young up and coming players.
As quoted by Cameron Smith, Benji played a significant coaching role in the latter stages of his playing career which was endured by Wayne Bennett, I do not think those two would be endorsing someone as a coach/potential coach if they did not believe he would be a success.
As an elite player over many years at four different NRL clubs, I think it’s fair to say Benji would have a fair idea what it takes to have the right players to create a successful team.
Fair enough. Firstly, no denying Benji or Robbie's credentials as a player, so no arguments there. And yes, he undoubtedly would have been looked up to by many current and up and coming players.
Where we differ on this point is I have little faith that this is at all a drawcard to attracting players. If i was to sign to a club i would want the best club and best coach, not to simply play for the coach whom i emulated in the backyard. Furthermore, i think most player managers would be directing their clients towards the 'safer' options.
I doubt Smith would have any idea what Benji contributed to a coaching capacity in his later playing years. They would have had very little to do with each other in any of their previous respective roles. Bennett would know so i will trust that he has made some comments backing Benji. This however does not provide me with any more confidence as it is not as though Bennett is likely to publicly ridicule his mate's aspirations.
It is fair that as a long-time player Benji would have been exposed to different coaching and have some idea about what the position entails. I just don't know that it would truly be enough exposure. Coaches repeatedly talk about the different demands from playing to coaching, and the step up from assistant to head coach. We have seen countless players fail as a coach and most of them vastly more experienced having gone through the typical player-junior coach-assistant coach-head coach pathway.
I'm not looking to change your mind in any way, it is fine to be optimistic. I just cannot share your confidence for any of the reasons mentioned. I hope you are right, there is certainly no actual reason why Benji cannot be successful. He certainly seems intelligent and committed enough. It is just that statistically it is more than likely that he will not be, and no coaching experience would seemingly make his success all the more unlikely.

Halves combo of Hastings and Laurie and we would have had a different season.

Every single one of us makes mistakes. But the nrl is ruthless. So good on Sheens for pulling the pin for the clubs sake and his own. He is the only coach who has brought us success. I wish him well.

And let’s hope Benji can bring the best out of this group. Enormous pressure on him first few rounds next year.

in summary..Benji has pretty much had a full season coaching, resulting in 3 wins and now that he’s finished his apprenticeship, the training wheels are off, victory is assured. 😂
