The outrage merchants at Fox have already started to beat up on us before a ball has been kicked

It's a fair question. There's a chance Luai completely changes the culture of the club and 1.2M seems a bargain. There's just as likely a chance that he cannot perform like a marquee half outside a very strong team and that combined with his price tag hamstrings the club for another 5 years.
Most likely scenario somewhere in between.

They don't write these about other clubs anywhere near as much. It is just added to the pile on of negative articles they write

Because other clubs haven't run last 2 years in a row and taken a 1.2M (calculated) gamble on a player.
Bulldogs have overpaid on guys too. You could even say Dragons overpaid for Ben Hunt with his 8 year 1 million dollar deal. They haven't made finals for a long time with a better squad than we have until recently

The Hunt contract was hammered in the media, not as much at the time of signing (which it still was) but later when he failed to deliver. Now it is all old news, though his request for a release was heavily critiqued in the media for a few weeks last year.
The only big signing for this year for Bulldogs is Crichton. He signed 6 months ago (and at a fair price for his most recent form). So again it is old news.
The Luai signing is the only big money signing recently. Of course it is going to be analysed.

Joey has publicly stated he wouldn't play against the Roosters....

I thought the rugby for a year thing was just so Roosters can balance cap and allow Joey the chance to make some extra coin in the interim.

He's one of the best players of the last few years, in the game.

Unfortunately for everyone else, I believe he is loyal to the Roosters and will be looked after by any means.

You won't see him at another club.

No other clubs are written about like this? Or is it that we notice Tigers articles more than those written about other clubs? I'm not really sure myself, maybe a combination of both.
