Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Yep I said the same thing. A good impact middle with strong defence, ideal for us. Hopefully it's another Turuva situation, all quiet then boom!
Yeah definitely. The only drawing point would be if he'd like to play under Benji (which is untenable now given Benji's record is poor and could see him gone by early next year) or to be a player that helps the rise of cellar dwellers (ironically Souths also)

Benjis got a leave pass this year, I think the knives will sharpen up mid next season unless we have improved more markedly.

We see how other sides are playing, we are still well off the mark.

Flanigan has been killing it at the dragons.

Let’s say we fill half the roster with newbies, getting them to play on the same page is a massive challenge.

Penrith looking to terminate Taylan May's contract. The Roosters would be the favourites to sign him given they already have Terrell and they're losing their starting centres. They used to have a habit of signing players sacked by other clubs, but no recent examples come to mind.

Of course, it's a moot point until his criminal matter is decided given the NRL's stand down policy.
They will have to beat the dogs , they sign everything that comes on the market

Flanigan is like a dog with a bone relentless doesn't stop he's a winner through and through he works all day everyday trying to make his squad better

Just saw Naden has interest from Hull KR & Sullivan from Hull FC. Richo has Hull connections you would think it is a possibility.

So after Papali'i gone plus I am sure we offload a few youngsters for 2025 (Tumeth etc...) plus the 2 above we have 3 spots pending Utoiukamanu.

Below locked in players plus targets.

1. Bula
2. Staines
3. Iro from Cronulla for me
4. Olam
5. Internal Promotion
6. Galvin
7. Luai
8. Utoiukamanu?
9. Korosaui
10. Klemmer
11. S Fainu
12. Garner back Panthers to run off Luai
13. Internal Promotion
14. Sezer/L Fainu/Da Silva
15. Pole
16. Twal
17. Internal Promotion

So we sign a back to replace Naden & Garner to replace Papali'i.

Still space in the 30 & I assume $$$ for a decent signing.

Bateman not included above either. Who knows what's happening with him.

In regard to moving players like Sullivan on- someone touched on something I've been thinking about for a while.

Remember when the Tigers & Storm had that swap deal with Harry Grant & Momorovski?

Why don't NRL clubs align with SL clubs for similar deals? The English Football competition (soccer) allows for season long loans between clubs to get young players or excess players game time at other clubs.

Why couldn't we loan Sullivan out for a season? Gives him valuable game time against good competition, develops the player & nobody loses- Tigers get a Top 30 spot free, Sullivan earns his full contract between 2 clubs, the SL club gets a 'probable' upgrade at halfback for a year. Why can't loan deals for rising youth players happen? Latu Fainu could benefit from exposure to first team football at a SL club. TDS. Fa'agutu etc.

It would be the same for most NRL clubs I'm sure.

It could also give clubs that develop their own talent the opportunity to keep those players on their books instead of losing them to other NRL clubs promising to give them their opportunity...
I had read somewhere that if the N.R.l did buy out the superleague there would be some sort of partner club programme where each team would have a permanent team in superleague they could send the best youngsters to to develop before coming into first grade

I agree, he’s all that and more.

When they get badly beaten, you can tell by his body language at the presser, he’s distraught and ready to explode.

Except for For and Against theyd be in the top 8 by now, which I think is surprising given their squad, their pre-season from Hell and the Lomax delinquency.

He’s a very good coach, it’s a shame we missed him although tbh I wanted Des.

If we got him to do an Ivan, we’d be stuck with Kyle.

I don’t get “Flanagan has been killing it at the Dragons”
They have one a couple of more games than the Tigers
and I can’t see them making the top 8 either.

Paseka went from our SG Ball team so wasn't really 'with us' and Aloiai was plenty committed with us. I don't think you're on the money here. Did Kelma Tuilagi become more committed? Is Aitasi James still sitting in reserve grade now more committed? Aaron Woods too.
Paseka felt he was ready for nrl and got peeved that he wasn't being picked.?
And he wasn't ready at that time, but playing gr8 at Manly
Aloi now more disciplined...kelma never had it anywhere he's been, and Woods has long lost it
Tommy a much better attitude than when with us,Brooks benefiting from dce
Paseka and aloi regrettable losses...we've replaced them with 2 imports on almost double the $ and arguably no better

And the super league would totally reject this concept as it's just cheapens their whole comp into a reserve grade for the NRL.
They want to compete with the NRL, not be subservient to them

Sounds good in theory but convincing any of the juniors to go over to England for a year would be a massive task
I'm not 100% sure it would be that tough.

Say, for instance, that the Tigers didn't think TDS was ready to play 1st grade. But, they had to re-sign him because his contract was up, or let him go. Another club- say, the Titans, offer him the chance of 1st grade to leave. This is how clubs lose their juniors now.

Now, lets say same scenario- but the Tigers offer TDS based off his potential, an upgraded contract at the same value as say, the Titans. But instead of the offer of a chance at breaking into the 1st team, you offer him a year loan, at his full contract value, to play regular 1st team football, at an associated club in England. Whay young player would turn down exposure to 1st team football? Then he comes back, a year later, developed, just as Api pulls the pin. He steps into the 1st grade side, ready to roll. This should be seen as part of their development, not punishment. Not quite ready to play regular 1st grade, too good to be in KOE.

For mine, more than helping out a club in terms of it's 1st grade selections, this is how clubs like Penrith, Brisbane, Warriors etc- who develop a large amount of junior talent only to lose them elsewhere under the lure of '1st team football' (which really translates to "more cash to play")- can maintain, and even 'overpay' young players to remain in their system until the natural opening into the 1st team becomes available.

This COULD help to take away the buying power of clubs that put little into junior development & actively promote the nurturing of junior players, clubs & systems by all the NRL clubs.

They already buy the NRL factory seconds.

This is actually providing them better quality players. The Bevan French's, Blake Austin's etc would populate the KOE while guys like Latu Fainu & TDS star.

The development of their own players needs to be considered. I'd suggest each NRL club could probably provide 3-4 maximum loans all up. This doesn't dominate their league, but it does give them the chance to expose their own players to higher quality NRL players coming against them.
