LIVE GAME Round 19 vs. Sharks

Live Game Discussion
The sin binning and many of the other rulings from last night’s ref were really absolute rubbish, however I agree with Benji in his press conference that the umpiring didn’t matter. We could have had 15 players for the game and still would have gotten hammered.
To say Benji didn’t seem to care is wrong. He was clearly upset and angry, frustrated and hugely disappointed. By not putting blame on the ref, he was ensuring that the focus was not shifted from the appalling lack of effort and attitude of “every” player first and foremost. He alluded to the fact that he has very few options to drop players. I’m sure there was plenty said in the dressing room.
That said, I am not convinced that he and his current staff have any answers or are capable of turning this group of players around. It seems an answer may be to replace Farah and Heighno with some hard nosed experienced assistant coaches to provide more support.
This club requires a complete overhaul of its NRL roster to enable players to play where they should be. It may take a few years, but we must bring in NRL players to the first 30 allowing half our current guys to be in lower grades where they might develop properly. Let juniors develop against their peers and blood them when appropriate. Clean out as much of the dead wood as possible and replace them with ‘effort players,’ competitive types who want to win every minute confrontation.

My point is, those just blaming the roster have their heads up their arses and have had their heads stuck there for a decade.
It is our coaching, it is our training, it is our lack of identity, it is ownership politics, it is our pathways management and the way they are being prepared just as much.
Luai and Turuva coming next year improves the roster. Papa, Stef and Junior leaving weakens it. Do we have more signings? How are we preparing for season 2025 if we don’t? Therein lies the problem. What is changing outside of roster management?

The roster management is and has been appalling no doubt about that, and hence why it is the weakest roster in the NRL by a country mile imo. Our position on the ladder reflects the reason why we were in the race for the wooden spoon at the beginning of the year, and now why it's as good as ours with six rounds to go.

Nope.

Said it didn't matter...

Context, being we lost and that would've been the result even without the binning.
I think this is part of the problem. He or Richo need to arc up and call out the bullshit penalties/sin bins. Even just 1. Cop the fine. The refs are a protected species and it seems like they have so little regard for our team, they do what they want with no consequences at all.

They may be the weakest, but certainly not by a mile.
The squad competes in a lot of games and has taken the scalps of some good teams over the past couple of seasons.
Inconsistency, preparation and discipline are our mental weaknesses, lack of attacking prowess and defence are technical weaknesses.
It’s a club effort. Merely stating we don’t have the cattle is a cop out and is the easy way out. It apportions blame without looking for solutions. We have had some properly ordinary rosters over the years. Are our teams of 23 and 24 as poor as 22? Not a chance, yet they performed almost identically.
Whatever we are doing outside of game day is making our good players drop form and stagnating the up and comers. The team doesn’t punch up…it doesn’t scrap and fight. It just goes through the motions.
We don’t play first grade level Rugby League. You can blame the players for sure, but if that’s all you are blaming you’ll still be sitting here in 5 years time saying the same shit.

This says it all.

Tucker you could get selected to play for Fiji, Cook Islands or PNG.
A NSW Cup team of the year member holds more weight than being selected to represent these nations.
You really are both the worst judge of footballers on the forum - and an overt racist!!

I thought Benji's comment in the presser was a bad call by him. To say no one played well is a dangerous comment. I've been in games where I've lost by 50 but busted my arse all game and walked off feeling pretty proud of my effort. If the coach turned around and put me in the same bracket as the poor performers I'd be filthy. I'd actually struggle to play for the guy.

There were players that tried and hard and played well last night. He needs to acknowledge those and blast the ones who dogged it.
Yeah I remember thinking at the time it wasn't a good speech... They asked about the sun binning and he said 'it didn't matter'
Yet a few weeks ago it was all about our discipline and it did matter then (regardless of it being a justified sin bin which I don't think it was)

Rewatched the game without the emotion of the live watch so picked up on more of those little things & effort areas that let us down.

I do feel that the performances & efforts of Stefano, Klemmer, Doeuihi, Lobb in the 1st half contributed greatly to the blow-out, simply the deflating influence their efforts had both in attack & defence. All 4 were atrocious!!!

I'm not saying we would have won if we had 4 better players than them but it would have been much closer & the efforts of the others would have lifted.

Stef needs to be brought in for a please explain.
Lobb is not a 1st grader.
AD needs to be dropped to Cup or the utility bench position (and given focused tackling training for his development).
Klemmer I feel has been told he is free to leave, can't explain it otherwise.
Good post . Still can't watch the replay as it pisses me off. What I can't understand is why we can't overcome these effort areas.

This is where all teams get better at during the season except for us.

Why is this allowed to continue

Ok Me Expert, so you reckon every player who plays for these nations are superstars who set the NRL alight. Off your head facts are facts.
Don’t start on race, you are the one who constantly ridicules players with Lebanese origins.

Bullshit!

I only criticise Doueihi - the "Lebanese Prince" because he is a myth!!

You and your imaginary Islander mates saying we have more Polys than the Warriors and your constant bagging of Bula unmasks your racism!

Again I don’t imagine we have an extremely high number of Polynesian players, it is fact.
It is also fact that Bula’s tackle bust numbers for the majority of this season have been extremely low compared with every other fullback playing NRL including the fill in fullbacks.
I acknowledged he was much better against the Storm and I also acknowledge his attacking opportunities last night were very limited which was no fault of his own.
With the numerous posts where you criticise anyone and everyone, I have yet to see you ever post a solution ?
Tell us Einstein, what players should Wests Tigers be looking at signing and offloading and how do we get out of this mess ?

The wrong players as our experienced leaders except for Api & to a certain extent for effort Bateman.

Klemmer, Sezer, Doueihi, Olam, Twal, Stef hardly ever take the bit between their teeth and say "follow me boys".

We need experienced leaders who will bust their gut & put their body on the line every week for 80 mins and not come across as miserable sooks.

Luai is a step in the right direction but we need more both in the middle & on the edges.
