FUTURE’S BRIGHT AT THE TIGERS DESPITE CURRENT WOES

FUTURE’S BRIGHT AT THE TIGERS DESPITE CURRENT WOES

Yes, they lost convincingly to the Cowboys in Round 22.

Yes, Stefano Utoikamanu and Isaiah Papali’i are leaving the club at the end of the season. And yes, John Bateman may well follow them out the door at the end of the year.

But make no mistake, something special is brewing at the Wests Tigers.

Jarome Luai arrives in 2025, fresh from a career year that saw him take hold of an Origin series, play a key role in a historic Blues series win and show the rugby league world that he can function at an elite level without Nathan Cleary by his side.

He will join the Tigers side with the potential to have the same earth-shattering, cultural transforming impact as his great mate Stephen Crichton has had at the Bulldogs this year.

Sunia Turuva will also arrive, bringing a wealth of winning experiencing from the Penrith Panthers and improving the Tigers ability to bring the ball out of their own end.

But forget about what’s coming and focus what’s already within the four walls at Concord.

Lachlan Galvin (19) spearheads a young core of promising Tigers that includes Latu Fainu (19), Samuela Fainu (20), Sione Fainu (23), Jahream Bula (22), Tallyn Da Silva (19), Fonua Pole (22) and Solomona Faataape (23).

Add Reuben Porter into the mix, who at 27 would be considered an old head in the Tigers dressing room, but has played just seven first grade games.

Galvin, Bula, Samuela Fainu and Porter stood out for the Tigers against the Cowboys, despite their loss.

Bula scored twice, ran for 263 metres and had three line breaks in a performance that proved once more why he is one of the highest-rated fullback prospects in rugby league at the moment.

Fainu opened the scoring early in the game, and found the try line once again in the second half. He finished with 98 run metres and 27 tackles, with just one miss, while his combination with Galvin improves from week-to-week.

And what can be said about Galvin that hasn’t already been said. He is a delight to watch, always looking to take the game on, always looking to create something for himself and his teammates every time he gets the ball.

Imagine what he can achieve with Luai’s guidance?

Imagine that they could all achieve with Luai’s guidance? Seriously, imagine it.

For that reason Tigers fans should cast their eye towards the future not with debilitating pessimism, but with true optimism that the arrival of a serial winner in Luai, to go with the leadership of Api Koroisau, could elevate their young star’s performance levels exponentially.

Speaking post-game, Tigers coach Benji Marshall shared his belief the future is bright at Concord.

“Although we might not be getting the results I feel there’s been a lot of promise about where we are going in the future,” he said.

With the host of young talent in the walls already, and the arrivals of a serial winner in Luai, it’s easy to see why Marshall feels this way.

I don’t mind this as I feel it has merit , we do have some young guys with loads of potential , adding Luai and Turuva is solid we just need to get a couple more nrl players plus clean out maybe 4 from reserves and build both teams up , have black up not , oh player X is out injured so we played another 19 year old kid no NRL experience but hay that 6 this year ( grin ) that should be 2 per year max

Are u a used car sales bloke , that’s the best spin I have heard since a bought my last car .
I do like ur thoughts , but u missed out the part , where is the go forward coming from , we got 3 forwards leaving and let’s be honest we may not get any replacements as Richo and benji want to give the kids a go , and these kids in NSW cup last week got flogged and I mean flogged , so again who’s setting the foundation for luai and Galvin , it won’t be that crowd we gave at present
Where and when is our DEFENCE going to improve, unless that happens none of these young kids coming through are going to be able to produce their best efforts.....To me it's all about defence

How does an ex employee previously fired by the organisation, who took them to court for unfair dismissal, get another job ?

Wonder if that has ever happened at another company in Australia previously?
The bigger question is how does he become the lord and master and get to run the entire organisation?
The truth is, he doesn’t.
The people who do make the crucial decisions on the club’s direction are still doing it, so it’s rather pointless to be laying blame on an ex employee who is bound by a NDA, making him unable to defend himself.

As NRL 360 said last night, the bottom teams are feeders for the top teams at the moment , and contracts mean nothing, so good luck to us trying to hold kids here, unless were start winning games and making the eight.

So it was a Madge thing …… why gaslight me ? His shenanigans get old quick .
Then you’re just getting yelled at by a middle aged man for … reasons ?
Even Phil Hould said you can only have 1 massive blow up a year because it’s a sure fire way to lose the room .
With Madge it was Half time , full time , Monday video , Thursday ball session , Saturday captains run , with a few dead snakes and some sacrifices in between .
It’s funny to talk about , but man ….. I don’t know how inspiring it would be 26 weeks a year .
Didn't you watch Tales from Tiger Town?

When Madge spoke he captivated the playing group, their eyes were riveted on him as they took in his words of wisdom, the man could not be more inspiring, and some people had the audacity to claim that he had lost the dressing room.

Talau has been great for Manly. He’s scored 14 tries this season.
14 is great , we new he had potential but looked injured , unfit , un coached at the tigers , , players move on from the tigers and some come good , we bring in players in the past and they just fail , this year we have has a great result with young Sam F , he has been great first year year , looking forward to a few more results like this next season , Faatape could be a Smokey for me along with young Luke L , Porter , Sione

Honestly don't think this is too far off the mark, plenty of 'good' teams in the league at the moment without a solid spine, but all the consistently very good teams have a great spine with continuity.
Keep this young core together and the rest will fall into place.
Everyone had hoped that we would be more successful this year, but ultimately the senior players have been terrible. Kids have been awesome, should be cause for some cautious optimism.

Interesting point. Ive noticed this season a few of the younger players don’t know how to tackle, particularly from behind. They have the speed to get there and place a hand on the shoulder. Maybe they don’t see the urgency or importance of nailing the ball carrier?

Is that sarcasm ? Really hard to tell in text …

Madge's message was simple: "F**k em! Fkkk em! F**k em! and when ya get there, Fkk em again! "

Yep, he’s done well but a lot of what’s happened has been the result of who’s inside him, that was his issue here. We tried to make him a creator not a scorer. When we had half decent inside men he scored quite a few tries for us.

Put him around good players, that are fast and skillful, and suddenly he looks better.

Realistically he hasn't improved, just at WT he was expected to create his own space and make breaks, whereas at Manly they do all the work for him and he dives over in the corner, like players like Jennings on the end of a Souths backline.

What I find interesting is Manly’s top player with try assists is Luke Brooks (15) and most have been beautiful passes to Talau, whether he’s played at centre or wing.

Some merit in your point about lack of creation, he has only 1 try assist in 17 games. Admittedly Luke Brooks wasn’t one of those good players at Tigers, but he was a few seasons ago?
