Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Was this made public, inside info or just your take?
Believe Richo mentioned in an interview after they were released that it was used to create cap space for next year and an article mentioning that the money was used to pay some of the bigger earners. I believe it specifically mentioned Bateman but could be wrong?

With us all guessing about new signings I think it will be players from left field as Richo likes to do.
I think ones being referred to "in the next few days" as depth signings in key positions will be internal retentions, so possibly Sezer & Sione Fainu. Both in the team for Saturday so could be put up to media at tomorrow's captain run. Hopefully Pole extension too!!!

I could be wrong, but when he says depth signings I was under the impression that means players new to the club, not re-signings from within ?
Either we definitely need Sikne Fainu re-signed and we definitely need Fonua Pole’s contract extended.
I’m not sold on re-signing Sezer unless we are confident he can ably play a 13 and 9 type role off the bench?

Wong is signed until 26
Eagan Butcher 25
Joe Chan has a MO for 25
and a sneaky buy Grant Anderson from Storm
I’ve mentioned Joe Chan a few times as he has a bit of mobility and a bit of aggression.
Issue is I have since been advised he is managed by Isaac Moses.
Egan Butcher would be very handy if we could convince him he is not being valued by the Roosters.
Grant Anderson was available for 2025 until about 5 weeks back when he extended with the Storm for another year. He is now proving to be a quality player and it’s likely Storm will force others out before him.
I’m not sold on Wong, he doesn’t seem to use his size and mobility to his advantage often enough.

Yes he has been the constant, thus I say he ran our attack this year. How did our attack go do you think?Does this make him an effective 5/8? Luai will certainly help him next year but is that what we should be doing, or should Luai be paired with Fainu? These are the questions that I am raising.
I think he has done well, however the attack outside of him barring the Cronulla and Canberra games has not clicked and given him a chance to direct them around of which I feel Luai will do. I am not sure if it was you or other forum members that have Bula also not living up to expectations and I see that also as a consequence of not having a strong leader as well as being young and not finding his voice like a good fullback and half should have directing the team around. That changes next year and whilst I am disappointed in the results this year and the past decade I look forward to the next few years where if run correctly this club can become a force.

do we think makasini will be playing nrl next year in the centres ?
I cannot see why not .. the guy is tall enough .. big enough .. fast enough .. has great hands .. and a great understanding and anticipation of the game.

Joseph Sua'ali'i was 17 years and 294 days when he played for the Rorters .. !! So why can't the Tigers apply for a exemption for Makasini .. !! In fact Makasini's current physical body shape is bigger then when Sua'ali'i made his debut.

So Makasini for NRL 2025 is on the cards .. 🙂

Yeah, he is a hard one.
The talent is clearly there...he could well be our best player.
He appears to not pull his weight consistently or cruise a bit...however:
  • He has defused 59 bombs this year - which has him ranked 2nd in the comp
  • He has taken 377 runs this year - which has him ranked 3rd in the comp
  • He is averaging 160m/game with over 3.3kms gained - which has him ranked 6th in the comp
  • He is 8th in the comp for kick return meters...his average isnt elite but he is putting the work in
  • Has played every minute this year bar a 10 minute spell in the bin - which has him ranked 2nd in the comp
That said, he is also error riddled (8th worst in comp) is outside the top 25 players for linebreak assists, top 60 players for try assists and seems often out of position to save tries.

A work in progress, but a slow one at that.

My evaluation in watching Bula in each of those many minutes have been confirmed by your stats. Him being great in some areas, yet lacking in assisting others, and missing the early highlight defensive efforts that had us all excited.

I expect that Luai will help him more in getting through the line, as Jahream can find a hole, and if Galvin can somewhat limit his sideways running that takes away the space out wide, they too will be a much more lethal combination. Hopefully others will be following him and taking the pass to score.
