Onitoni Large to Manly

Mate back to my original post. All these losses adding up is concerning.
Losing a junior in itself is not really concerning. Losing a contracted junior is mildly concerning. That happening shortly after another (particularly one in the same position) was denied multiple release requests and not yet secured their future here (Galvin) is a little concerning. That happening in conjunction with another highly rated young player choosing to activate a release clause and leave for less money and years (Utoikamanu) is somewhat concerning. That happening at the same time the best forward and probably the only walk up tier 1 rep player (Papalli'i) opts to leave before his contract is up is concerning. That happening whilst one of our more promising young forwards (Pole) is yet to re-sign and looks set to go to market is quite concerning.
Clearly there is a trend of our best young talent not wanting to be here. How long do you wait before getting concerned and believing there may be a problem that needs addressing?
You started with some valid points around Galvin.

But connecting stefano and papa to junior development there's no correlation.

If we let this bloke go, on contract, for nothing in return, then we should be concerned though, you are right there.

I'm sure we'll find out over the next few days.

Hopefully Richo has called Mr Galvin in and said mate, I’m releasing one of the best five eighth prospects in the country here because we’re backing your son to turn this club around. You in.

Got it. So when Tigers lose players it's concerning. When other clubs lose players it's not concerning. Seems like you haven't thought this through.

What do you say to Penrith? Luai, your SOO half leaves to the wooden spooners from the premiers...that's very concerning. Then! If that wasn't enough, Turuva follows him out the door! Fisher Harris has walked out on them too...Penrith obviously falling apart. Very concerning.

What if it's just as simple as the pathway is blocked regardless of whether Galvin stays?
You can't see the difference between players being forced out by salary cap constraints and players leaving because they simply don't want to be here? Comparing our situation to Panthers is laughable. It would be more aligned to Lomax leaving Dragons. Except it is only him choosing to leave not a trend of multiple players wanting out.

This one player leaving may be simply due to pathways rather than a reflection of the trend of players wanting out. But if that is all it is why not enforce the contract and wait the year? What's the harm? (No I don't know that they didn't try).

Additionally we can least afford to lose the talent we have as we have the least talent to lose and seemingly struggle the most to attract outside talent.

So, yes us losing players is more concerning

The junior development and Galvin not yet committed is why I think this individual release is a poor decision (at this time). As you say there may yet be more to play out
No correlation between the other blokes and junior development obviously but a trend of players with options (as in other clubs want them not contractual options) wanting out.

There are plenty of rumours on twitter that the brother will follow… it is only twitter tho so not very reliable to say the least
Why would the brother stay? They will take the cash available, and who can blame them. Ashton is also clearly behind Da Silva and possibly Haywood at this point. Sadly neither Large wants to be or is a gun centre bc if they were there's a spot open for them.

So just make him play an extra year for the heck of it? What would that achieve? He's blocked by Fainu. What is your plan for Large? The kid doesn't want to wait around...the opportunity is there with DCE retiring. He's taking it. You would too. Stop sticking it up the club.

It's a massive risk. We should have first locked Galvin down before releasing anyone. We could potentially lose both.

Well if the clauses were in his contract and the path is clearer elsewhere, is there any surprise that he wasn't prepared to sit back in a wooden spoon club while other 18 year olds are being debuted ?
While ever there is no transfer fees and young players not motivated by loyalty can't see how the club can compete when opportunity is available elsewhere.

If you are happy that’s proper development, good for you 👍🏼
That’s nonsense. There’s no way on earth that you cns have any formed opinion on whether thier development pathways are correct or not . Especially … arnt you in Townsville ? How would you know if they are or arnt developing correctly .
Because it’s the tigers right ? Yet the panthers debuted most of those squad in their teens . The roosters debuted walker at 18 and same with Sualiii .
Even your beloved cowboys debuted your back rowers in their teens .

Because I keep watching these guys come last.
There’s no way our pathways are working properly.

Wtf are you talking about ? They all debuted this year…… I get the ease in which we can all fall into the “woe is me” mindset . But seriously. What you’re talking about here is a narrative choice in your mind .
The GWS giants came last for ages by just playing kids over and over . Most of the top US sports teams were shit not that long ago when they were playing kids .
It’s way too early to comment on these kids development other than to say , they are all promising right now .

Absolutely.

There needs to be a line in the sand drawn at 12 December 2023. I think we all agree the club was a failure up to that point. From that date onwards it’s too soon to judge progress.
