Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

That record is tainted as they had no cap and loaded their sides with great players who were well trained under the unlimited tackle rules.
As soon as limited tackle sets began, their dominance was broken. They were also amateurs.
These Penrith and Melbourne outfits we’ve seen over the past 6 years would have consistently put 50 on them.
Of course they’d put 50 in them.
It’s completely ridiculous trying to compare teams from different eras, especially 50 years apart. And that’s not a shot at you, we all do it.
Man’s evolution alone, every gen is bigger than the last.
But I can tell you for fact they were the rorters or the cheating storm of their day.
Poppy BF (the Ref), rarely expressed any emotion towards a football team, but I remember him telling me that that dragon club were the pinnacle from top to bottom just like the storm, and that included manipulating anything or anyone they had to to win. They were ruthless in their pursuit. Something we have rarely had.
So no their record is not tainted, they just had a different set of rules to manipulate to their advantage, and they did so, very well.
Also he told me the magpies were definitely robbed, one year before the game started. Would not elaborate, meaning a ref was probably on the take.

Isn’t his father involved with Wests in coaching or was that previous , strange , but if they don’t want to be hear , get rid of them
He will be Head Coach of Harold Matthews again in 2025. Alex's younger brother Iszak (fullback/outside back) is a part of the squad next year.

I would say Alex's move was more about the placement of where he is on the depth chart in terms of young halves at the club and chance of picking up development and Top 30 contracts in the coming years. Not sure if he will have the tools to make it all the way, but good luck to him.

Not everyone player leaving is entitlement or because we’ve done something wrong. A lot of these players switch clubs because they have a dream they’ve been working at for the past 10ish years. Yeh it stinks some of the kids go but it’s a decent indicator that we could be doing something right or have a star on our hand

Massive that Penrith is going so well in a time when there's other formidable teams around too.

But let's not forget history, and the feat of the St George team that won ELEVEN consecutive grand finals - 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, and 1966.

Now THAT is some sort of miracle.
Probably no coincidence that the introduction of the 4 tackle rule followed a few years later by the 6 tackle rule ended their 11 year domination, granted that all teams played under the same unlimited tackle rule but obviously they found a way with their well stacked teams to dominate under those rules.

The most disappointing thing about that 11 year domination was that in 7 of those years they beat our 2 foundation clubs, Wests on 4 occasions and Balmain on 3 of those occasions.

Most people would no doubt agree that Wests were robbed in 1963 and St.George's winning streak should have ended there and then in the mud bath (blood bath) that was the 1963 Grand Final.

It was commonly put about that Darcy Lawler in his last game as a first class referee had backed St.George to win the game and this was backed up by a number of dubious on field decisions that were made on the day.

Wests were able to score a try in the 1963 Grand Final, it being the first Grand Final try that St.George had conceded since 1958, unfortunately it was the last time that Wests would appear in a Grand Final losing by 8 points to 3.

The Magna Carta was British from the year 1215.

Yes but the Sovereign Citizen movement was started in the USA even though they claim very tenuous roots to the Magna Carta.A very delusional group of people who believe laws don't apply to them,i can't blame the poms for that one

I'm glad somebody mentioned the 14th MAN that St George often had on the payroll....(and it wasn't just that game!)

IF MY MEMORY SERVES ME CORRECT. 1956 - 1966
That was no miracle, no salary cap then, and unlimited tackles St george were the richest club in league, the league's club was nicknamed the TAJ MAHAL by most followers of the game, they had the greatest team, because they could get the greatest players and keep them.
