I would say Alex's move was more about the placement of where he is on the depth chart in terms of young halves at the club and chance of picking up development and Top 30 contracts in the coming years. Not sure if he will have the tools to make it all the way, but good luck to him.

I believe Penrith deserve all the success they have (despite us being dogged by Ivan) as they are losing players every year because of the salary cap and still manage to win, as opposed to Storm who never really accepted they were found cheating, kept the big three together (plus Bellamy) somehow and still claim those stripped titles like they deserved them.

Also [WARNING CONSPIRACY THEORY ALERT] it is interesting that since V'landys took over the NRL (end of 2019) we have had the most stable NRL tables in the modern era (ie. roughly the same teams at the top and same teams at the bottom). I won't name names but knowing some people heavily involved in the racing industry and with ties to the NRL chairman, there is a real incentive so to speak for the frontrunners to run front and the smokies to stay smoking. Betting agencies have a lot of weight in our game and we don't talk about it. Not saying they dictate results at all but it is an interesting coincidence that some in the industry talk about behind closed doors. [END CONSPIRACY THEORY]

Here's hoping next year we can prove this wrong and climb the ladder, get some more troops and push for a real run for the premiership in 2026.

Rumour has it there's been something huge brewing. Mary Fowler is considering a move closer to Nathan and switching codes, to sign with the Wests Tigers NRLW side through to 2027.

Nathan being loved up, told his dad he'd like to play at the same club as Mary. So Ivan approached Richo, and they agreed to a player swap (Galvin for Nathan). I heard it's a 6 year deal.

Furthermore, Ivan will follow Nathan and Mary, and serve as an assistant to Benji through to the end of the 2030 season.

Wouldn't betting agencies want consistent upsets so they collect our cash more often.

The most disappointing thing about that 11 year domination was that in 7 of those years they beat our 2 foundation clubs, Wests on 4 occasions and Balmain on 3 of those occasions.

Most people would no doubt agree that Wests were robbed in 1963 and St.George's winning streak should have ended there and then in the mud bath (blood bath) that was the 1963 Grand Final.

It was commonly put about that Darcy Lawler in his last game as a first class referee had backed St.George to win the game and this was backed up by a number of dubious on field decisions that were made on the day.

Wests were able to score a try in the 1963 Grand Final, it being the first Grand Final try that St.George had conceded since 1958, unfortunately it was the last time that Wests would appear in a Grand Final losing by 8 points to 3.

Unlimited sets ( modern teams struggle to defend for 12 tackles) limited interchange, competitive scrums play the ball, 3 yard rule etc. I would be surprised if a 2024 side would cope- it is beyond their experience. Mate, the 2024 sides wouldn’t have to hold the ball for too many tackles in a row. They’d blow those 50’s boys into outer space. I’d suggest they’d score on average ever 8 or so tackles…all game long.
In defence, they’d wear the 50’s boys out through attacking them with multiples and working them over.
