New Wests Tigers Jersey

Fun fact: although liberty Island (and therefore the statue of liberty) is geographically within the state of New Jersey, it is technically an exclave (like an enclave, but outside the state...) of New York state.

To me, the simpler design, the better.

Too many angles, sharp points, stuff like stripes, claws, etc, make it all too messy and not aesthetic in any way, shape or form. That includes the mid and late 2000's strips that were WAY too busy.

Personally, something like this is more my taste. View attachment 16414View attachment 16415
Quite frankly I would be pretty happy with anything that doesn't have the Brydens logo on it.

At the very least it would be a good starting point.

I think we can do better with these designs. The above jerseys are a good place to start, I do feel like they are a bit boring and simple. The V needs to be sharper on the chest.
Let’s bring back the original jerseys we wore in the year 2000. They look good and still popular amongst fans. A modern version with collars. I know we brought them back for a game last season, but I think we can keep them. Hopefully better quality than the steedan ones

Fair enough.

I think the exact opposite.

The early designs with sharp bits and pieces and shit going everywhere was way too busy and an assault on the eyes.

It had a barb or similar on the bottom of the V that's about it... Hardly busy imo
05 was busy
:12 was busy... Imo

The original design wasn't as busy, but it was cheesy as.

It looked ok on a retro last year, but the lightning bolt motif was very dated.

It's akin to a pair of Hot Tuna boardies, with flames on them, that go down past someone's knees.

Hot shit at the time, very dated these days.

I really don't understand the push away from tradition.

Look at the English Premier League. Man City, Liverpool, United etc. Have never changed the main strip. They have alternative strips each year which satisfies the itch for something different, but the main jersey is always the same.

We should stop mucking around with it.

Ahhhh I remember when a footy top was what your team wore. Not trying to be the height of fashion.
Taylor Swift seems to come out on stage with glitter. Maybe along those lines. She seems to know what the fans want

I agree.

Our problem, at least from where I'm sitting, is that we've never had a home or main Jersey that is universally loved and ensconced in the fabric (so to speak) of this club.

That's our first priority, then I'm all for locking one down.

Those originals that I found, and there's no credit to me at all, are the closest thing to a perfect Wests Tigers Jersey in my eyes.

Whoever it was NAILED it.

I agree mate.

I don't think we've ever got it quite right. I can't recall a single jersey I've fallen in love with at first sight.

.... Though I still have 13 of them. Haha.
I might have to concede on my point of moving away from all semblance of the legacy club jerseys because those do look damn cool... 🤣

Still want to see the white version though!

They do make changes very frequently - very subtle, but very often, and sponsors change over time. If anything, the EPL is the epitome of capitalising on kids having to have the latest strip.

Before every season it's a huge deal revealing that seasons strip, much like the F1 livery.

I understand wanting to keep tradition, but it's also great that people see things differently.

I think in 1999/2000 the club (not plural!) did itself a disservice by having partisan people from both founding clubs not wanting to really forge a new identity by clinging to the past.

In doing so, it has (ironically) made it extremely difficult for it to find its own identity as a unified, singular entity and start to build its own traditions, etc.

People with split personalities tend to have identity crises...

We think.

Quick google:

Traditionally, clubs have always had away kits, home kits and third choice kits, and the 2010/11 change meant that, being the main gear of Britain’s top clubs, home kit designs were changed each season, as they still are today. However, it was reported that the decision initially received a mixed response, as critics claimed that frequent football gear changes made it harder to associate a single kit with the highlights of a particular season, as well as purchasing football kits more often proving to be costly for fans.

Why do football kits change every season?

A main contributor to football kits changing every season, in recent years, there seems to have been a rising demand for specific trends, which appear to have been driven by the rise in football shirt ecommerce stores. In particular, sales for retro football kits seem to have taken off, appearing to have influenced official Premier League team kits. And as football gear trends change, frequent kit changes can help to cater to these demands.

Sellers on shopping platforms such as eBay and Depop also appear to have caught on to the demand, with classic kit designs having recently witnessed a rapid increase in value. According to i News, in 2020/2021, searches for retro kits on eBay increased by almost 140%. Due to the sheer scale of the football memorabilia market having some influence on rapid kit changes, it seems that sellers will always be able to find an opportunity for rising trends in football gear.

Another reason that football kit changes have become more frequent since 2010/11 is the increase in high profile deals between Premier League Clubs and leading football kit manufacturers.

We are the Tigers.

A Tigers colours are orange, black and some white.

What identity were you hoping for?

Also, I'm sorry, but EPL teams do not put lightning bolts and rubbish all over their main strip each year. As you said, the changes are super subtle, but reflect the traditional kit very clearly. Ours changes quite significantly each year.

Do St George change their kit each year? Roosters? Bulldogs? There is precedent for zero change to your main kit in NRL. You are talking like it's mandatory that changes are made. Muck around with the away kit each year...make it hot pink for all i care! I'm all for it, but keep a traditional kit that can be part of building our history and tradition as Wests Tigers.

The annual let’s design a new jersey thread. As usual, bores me stiff, and is only ever changed for revenue raising.
Pick and stick I say. Don’t have to think about Storm, Panthers, Broncos, Roosters, Dogs jerseys etc. only us.
More important things to worry about imo.
Like who is going to fill the jersey and will they be capable of digging us out of the mess we are currently in.
And yes, I know I’m a boring old fart coz I wont play this game !

The intention of the design when it was brought in was for the design to be permanent. That may change now with the changes to the admin.
Given Richo’s current direction and motto for the club is ‘One Jungle’ I feel there may be a change. The intention of the current jersey’s whilst a nod to the past also are a little divisive by being modern replicas of both former clubs iconic jersey’s. I like the idea but it still seems disjointed. If both had retained the Wests white V on both the black and orange jerseys it may be a bit more uniformed.

first and foremost, I’m hopeful we part ways with Steeden. their quality is well below standard and they’ve never been true to size. in addition their off field gear is atrocious.

I’d love to see us partner with Dynasty. what they’ve managed for Manly and NZ are second to none, and their heritage jerseys are some of the best I’ve seen. with the 20 year anniversary of 05 due next year, I really don’t want the club to mess it up.

as for what it looks like, it has to be predominantly black with a double V that is sympathetic to both Wests and Balmain. I appreciated the fact that the former admin wanted a jersey that we could have almost permanently, but it was never perfect, nor was it 'timeless'. I’m hoping Richardson and his team can find the sweet spot.

I agree except that I think it should be mostly orange. Not because of any Balmain affiliation but because we are the only team that wears orange. The alternate jersey could be mostly black.
