OFFICIAL Terrell May #296

this is a great signing and I think this signing can take us to that 12th to 7th range but I am still concerned about the lack of depth and quality we have in the second-row position hopefully we can sort it out soon cause the only real second rows we have now is Seyfarth and sam fainu since Bateman is leaving
Depth;

Jack Bird
Sukkar
Tumeth
Tim Johannsen
Kit Lualiilii [probably not preferred backrow but can do a job]
Same as Saukura
Ruben Porter
Stone Fainu [if re-signed]
Lachlan Broderlow [development]

And I'm sure guys like Twal, Pole and possibly Douihei could play there if we are desperate.

None of it is exactly ideal but we have some options.

i think Johannsen is the smokey and could excel at any position if given the chance.

Yes, but it's still the Doggies and the Dragons as our main rivals. Difference is now at least we are starting to win those battles, unlike 3 years ago.

Still, the Roosters know their stuff about Marquee players so it's a weird one. Bateman looked really good on the tin at one stage.
I wonder what has changed? Do you think Harry is having some input with contract negotiations?

He's one that would be really interesting to experiment with in Cup this year. But I agree, I'd love to see how he goes on an edge and given that we're well-covered for middles, at least this year, would be interesting to see if he can be repackaged.

I'm not going to throw him out as a prop, love his early work there, but I'm always a fan of fiddling with understudies' roles to see what they can do, outside of being typecast.

I like the idea of Johanssen experimenting in the backrow. He's got the perfect physique for a big edge forward imo.

Another Smokey could be Jaxson Rahme.
I suspect he returned to the Tigers because he thought he was better than Sukkar in the pecking order?

I think Robo summed the scenario up pretty eloquently by stating that although Terrell is a quality player he was a value add for them. The decision allows the roosters to give others a go that wouldn’t of got the opportunity.

Breaking it down in order of playing preference Terrell would be 3rd choice behind Collins and Leinu. With both on roughly 600ish and Terrell on 450k it ties up a bit of cap in the front row.
Clearly Terrell suits starting as opposed to coming off the bench so there is also that.
There is also the unheralded rise of Nafau White whom became a New Zealand international this season who you would think will get plenty of game time.
Beyond that there is cover in the two butcher boys, Radley as a middle or edge depending.
Below that is Xavier X’au and Blake Steep.

translation our forward pack is stacked.
Terrell is clearly capable of starting and we don’t see value in paying 450 for someone to play a role not suited to them just because it’s an option.

Of course there is also the chance that this may of been a mutual decision in the end and was kept quiet as they didn’t want to be seen as being rejected by a quality player.

You’re one Achilles away from having no engine room . An Achilles and an ACL away from playing depth players in your starting from row . I don’t even think the roosters have that kind of arrogance in plucking someone form somewhere. .
I think the story goes Terrell openly said he wasn’t a fan of Robbo . And it went down like a lead balloon .
I’m assuming it’s probably 4 or 5 situations that would have added up to a character assessment from robbo that wasnt too kind to Terrel.
Still , plenty of blokes have admitted robbo is a bit a dickhead .
Clearly robbo didn’t want to roll the dice with that potentially becoming an issue .
I’ve been high performing before , and been like by workmates , but been on the shit list because I openly said I didn’t like my management as people .
It explains a lot anyway about the situation anyway .

Also to those who were worrying and saying “ tigers will ruin him “ , because ex. Rooster joined the tigers .
We once signed a Prop from the roosters who had lost a bit of his shine , he had gained earlier in his career .
That guys name was Todd Payten . Just saying …

That was due to salary cap. I think he’s the only player in history who was being paid by 3 clubs at once.

Yea , he’d always fallen out with the roosters due to form and whatever . So it wasn’t just salary cap .
My point is ex roosters player coming here doesn’t mean they’re going to drop in quality .
