Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I’m not saying he can coach or he’s proven anything, I just think this year he truly has a roster capable of winning in first grade. He’ll be judged on that.
Of course he will. He has a possible contender for the finals on paper.
That doesn’t erase the past two efforts though.

"Marshall would assume the role in the Tigers' Round 25 match, where the Tigers would break a 10-game losing streak, defeating the Dolphins 24–22. The final 3 games of the 2023 NRL season officially do not count toward Marshall's coaching record, as Tim Sheens was still technically the head coach until the conclusion of the season."
If you don’t think he coached in 23 then you weren’t paying attention.

I agree. You even look at Galvin's junior career and he was a mercenary even then. He bounced around junior clubs until he landed at a team that went undefeated for years. Left Parra at the first sign of trouble.

I also believe there is a good possibility that Latu ends up a better player than Galvin. Galvin was always going to look good earlier in his NRL career because he is a bigger body. I also have concerns about Galvins long term position, particularly when he fills his frame out at 23-24 years old and is 6ft4-6ft5. He will likely be too big and slow to play in the halves and end up in the backrow just like Wade Graham, John Sutton, Sironen, Matterson etc etc.
Were those guys setting club records and mere seconds off WR bronco’s tho? It’s not just stamina that gets you on the footsteps of WR’s

IMO, Richo needs to drill in the ideas to Galvin that if he leaves:
- he throws away that legacy of a one club man and a key role in the revival of the 💩house of the pre-2025 WT’s, with his potential and seeing himself as a future legend of the game imagine that argument in top 5/8’s of the 2020s or even all time
- he becomes a scapegoat in a large chunk of clubs if they lose, Luai protects him from that here
- it’s year 1, combinations will take time to build, sign on for another year or two and see how the combination goes and some of the dead wood from previous management is replaced

So basically rely on romanticisms? Easy for an emotionally invested supporter. Players have a different mindset.

He has had two and a half years!!!!!!!
You need to stay quiet on this one.
If he works out this year, it doesn’t make anything you’ve said true.
Up until right this second, the evidence all says he is a poor first grade coach.
You could give any other coach in the comp the same players, and probabilities are the same results would occur, this coming season will be Benji's first with a reasonable team of players in our side, amazing how many so called supporters of our club just want Benji gone, give him this season with this team to see how he goes, then if he fails with his new team, by all means criticise his coaching, win or lose.

IM SURE YOU WILL.

- he won't care about a legacy, he'll get that at the Roosters or Parramatta if he wins a title at either ( especially Parramatta0;
- again he won't care as he'll have the $$ and that's more tangible than what others think
- if he stays and if there's another horror season or two then his market value will diminish ;

Gee Wiz, who cares about muscle fibres. The Kids a good Footballer, if he's a good "(organiser/passer)" then that makes for a good 5/8.
I don’t know mate. You look at how many opportunities Jerome Hughes, Tom Dearden, Luke Keary and the like could create with their speed, and they score plenty of tries due to their speed.

At the other end of the spectrum you had Jackson Hastings who had a decent pass but was (very) slow and not (very) effective because of it.

Time will tell I suppose.

Tackling technique, Yes.

But there are different defensive systems and philosophies, just as there are different attacking plays.

Penrith and Canterbury operate with line speed as their defensive DNA. Canterbury more so, which is no surprise considering Ciraldo was defensive coach at Penrith. This takes time away from the attack.

For years, Bennett was passive with line speed, focusing more on being a little more on connected and flatline to limit gaps in the line.

You also have different marker systems, they can be different again whether it's in yardage or on the tryline.
Everything you said is true. None of it is overly complex though - the coaching staff teach the players the philosophies they want to see in defensive structure and the players apply it.

Whether that involves line speed, sliding, rushing the passer, gap integrity etc etc, the players application to it (the mental aspect) is the greatest delineator in my opinion.

Sheen's ball required speed in the halves led Hastings to the revolving door seen himself as a half under pressure at the knights now.

I think his non-commital attitude makes the equation is pretty simple. If we are winning most of our games he will stay. If we have another poor year he goes. Fair play to him

If we have a poor year he will have played a large part in it

A bit rich criticising a club that regularly makes finals, particularly coming from a supporter of easily the worst club in the NRL.

Perhaps Kyle didn't fit their club, or meet their standards and expectations. It's not primary school or a freakin' charity where you're just happy that your player can participate. It's the elite comp of the most brutal team sport in the world. You need to be ruthless to succeed, and if you don't meet the challenge, then move them out. Something WT haven't done enough of over the past few years. Hopefully that changes now.
Hard to knock a successful club they just get under my skin wasn't that long ago they wanted to move on a blues 2nd rower for Fifita and failed, came in late for Hunt failed, think there's more missed targets as well not coming to mind just now but personally I want them to fall back to earth for a couple of seasons can't stand the way they try cherry pick the best talent in the NRL they will come after our talent in the future it's on the nose.

Personal opinion is the club sacrificed last year to give some young talent an edge in experience for this year.

Everything before that I hang on an inept management of the club.
You have to blood them sometime if the season is gone probably the best time to give them experience make them hungry for the next.

I like everyone expect to Luai and Galvin start the season in the halves.
I'm really looking forward to see Luai with Latu in the halves esp if Galvin
isn't really commital to us.
I really want Taylan May to join us as our 30.....depending on what happens there with court.
But right side backrow...Who does everyone think will start there?
