After listening to his audiobook i’d say the back office was definitely a factor or it would’ve become one. He spoke on his time at WT’s saying he couldn’t see himself there long term because the club never felt aligned, there were factions at board level (Wests vs Balmain) & that the reserve grade team wasn’t even named the Wests Tigers.
At least the board has been resolved 1 more to go.
 
Whether we like it or not Benji will be the coach to the start the season… pointless bickering won’t change that. Let’s just get behind the boys & hope for a good 2025.
100% . We all want success and if that means winning games and benji is coach then amazing . Can’t believe some on here are still going on about last off season and people being optimistic.
 
This place cracks me up. It’s too hot and I don’t like cricket or tennis much. No footy is debilitating. Can I recommend pickleball - seriously lots of fun if you have a buggered aging body - maybe try it in winter though. Bring on the trials!
 
I think an argument can be made that there was a shift toward success made last season, despite the results.

Plenty of young players brought through- some very good quality potential players. Some better performances than we had seen in previous seasons (SOME- not a blanket 'we were better'). There was a direction in recruitment going in to last season & definitely the end of the season, moreso than in other seasons. Even the debated recruitment of Sezar had a purpose- a senior head with direction & a kicking game.

I think of it like this- 2005 we won the comp. But we started turning things around in 2003, despite the results. We will hopefully see more results in 2025, but some hard yards were churned in 2024.

I'm not aware of the mechanics of it, but whatever lead to Sheens leaving the club instead of taking up that Football GM role he SHOULD have had was a big kick in the nuts of any success we could have had. I'd have loved seeing a Sheens/Richardson front office, guiding Benji & seeding our juniors with young talent (which is what Sheens ALWAYS does well).

Missed opportunity, in my opinion.

Not as bad as he’s portrayed.
He was my favourite player growing up and has been nothing but kind and approachable whenever I’ve seen him in person . A tigers legend that went cms from winning that grand final 🙁

GM was the role for him why he took the coach role again I don't understand.
 
I remember having lunch at the pub one day with my GF, showing her the pile on comments about how negative I was, and how I was being an agitator and contrarian for saying we’d get the spoon. It’s hilarious that it’s now being made out that last off season on here was morose

Yes he is raw, that’s why I wanted him to have a new mentor.
The squad was largely approved by him. He has been at the club since mid 2022 in a planning capacity. All recruitment decisions were supposed to be his.
Those are not excuses.
He wanted this, he needs to man up and take charge or he will be without a job by June.
He seems to have made some steps towards this which is encouraging…can’t wait to see how he has evolved.
I think richo took on the mentor role and I believe he thinks that is all benji needs

Also didn’t like the fact we had more than one home ground.
