OFFICIAL Lachlan Galvin #277 *Released* Career Discussion.

That is a super big and EARLY call
Nothing has changed since round 1 despite fans saying he had a delayed preseason. He is probably the only half in the NRL who has no try assists across 4 games. Maybe Chad Townsend the only other, but his team's been struggling

Latu and Galvin will be a better combo. Maybe even latu and luai. But luai and galvin is a disaster. They've had 4 games together and everyone has been below average. Even the wins
Galvin imo needs the ball in his hands, he is the energiser bunny, but he just needs to learn to control himself a bit and pick his moments better cause many times he stifles our attack and it breaks down, though he's only a pup and will learn, develop and get better, it's having an impact on Luais game as the combination is still gelling.

Try assist is a skewed stat .. if you look at it realistically he’s had a hand in about 4-5 tries I’d say. Just not the last pass

What's he done so far?
Saved at least 4 certain tries defensively, led the line speed and kick chase, kicked well and setup the plays from the inside. He’s been solid. Has he lived up to a 1.2m price tag? Only coaches can gauge impact on the squad internally. The key here is he has the ability to take over as proven without Cleary at Penrith. More of Luai and less Galvin needs to be a feature moving forward.

You know, not trying to start anything here, but there was a stage last year where I was saying all this stuff and getting bashed from pillar to post on here.
Im glad people are beginning to look at things a bit more objectively rather than subjectively.
Cause all you do is talk shit. You do nothing but bag most of the players amd talk up players that left. Hows Bateman going . You spent the year telling the story that Galvin is over rated you even had Brown from the Eels as a much better player. Like the rubbish you talk abt Mak and how we shouldnt play him this year , yet you carry on that Suali was a superstar at the same age. Wasnt Suali worth more than Galvin. You carry on like a keyboard expert that knows better than everyone as i have told you many times thats why you get bashed from pillar to post. Then sending someone that there a pedo because they dont see things the way you do show just how much of a little man ypu are.

The thing about Galvin's next deal is that whether it's us or someone else, he will, in all likelihood, be offered a contract well-above his true value at the moment.

So the outcomes aren't that much of a mystery. For me, there's basically two.

Either we stump up the cash and take a gamble on one of the most impressive young kids to come through in decades, or, we check, and allow another team to raise and do the exact, same thing.

He'll be on overs for the next few years regardless.

His next contract could be overs for it's duration if he plateaus or, it could end up being unders if his development continues well and he starts becoming majorly influential in the outcome of games.

Whether we think he's worth it or not, or whether he has shown enough yet or whether he deserves it, is neither here or there. He'll get the money.

Either we take the gamble or we don't.

I prefer to hold the cards and dictate terms, so I'm taking that risk.
Well said !! Agree with this.

I'll openly admit that I was one of the supporters who would have moved heaven and earth to keep him last year, though I never had a go at anyone on the forum for having a different view. The change for me was the Warriors game, I'll preface this by saying he's only a pup and will get much, much better, though for every good thing he did I can remember a set of six where the play broke down, I distinctly remember one set about 25 metres out of the Warriors line Luai gave him the ball, Galvin crabbed right then back left when he couldn't find someone to give it to or any space to run in and just passed the ball back to Luai who looked lost and just took a hit up and got tackled. It's that, the energy he shows Is amazing I love the fact he always wants the ball and isn't afraid to step up and put his hand up, when he does though he's really raw and alot of the time our attack breaks down. Million dollar players don't do that, 750, 800k I can live with while he learns, I just don't want us tied down on a long term deal based on potential again. Latu came on ran straight and scored, I'm not comparing the two, I'm suggesting maybe we give the other guy a chance to prove himself with Luai in the halves before throwing the chequebook at Galvin.
The problem with Galvin always wanting the ball is he is no threat as a runner. So when he has the ball he is very reliant on his players to run into holes. But it’s hard for these players to do so because a lot of the time Galvin doesn’t even know where he is going, he just goes back and forth.

It will be intersting to see Latu play on his favourite left edge this weekend (presumably).

I think your last sentence is spot on. We are rushing to re-sign Galvin without properly evaluating Latu as an individual or in combo with Luai. Latu’s hamstring injury at the start of last year which opened the door for Galvin will end up being a fork in the road for the club as we will lose one of Galvin and Latu after this season (or possibly next). Whether we took the right path, only time will tell.

They see a lot more of them than we do, which is only during the games … you got to put your faith in the guys running the team to make the correct calls …

Yes I accept this is correct. We only see 80 minutes 24 times a year. But it is the most important 80 minutes!

Saved at least 4 certain tries defensively, led the line speed and kick chase, kicked well and setup the plays from the inside. He’s been solid. Has he lived up to a 1.2m price tag? More of Luai and less Galvin needs to be a feature moving forward.
You forgot that he brings the boombox.

His kicks haven't been great. He let in two tries recently vs warriors one being the crucial match deciding one and one against niukore. The week before he let nikorima outmuscle him. He ran for 11 metres. 11 metres on the weekend. That is luke brooks in a tigers jersey numbers. At least luke would set up a try and not be a complete liability and passenger

I would utilise that bunny's energy by having him following up the middle on every tackle other than a wide shift, and even use him as a decoy when using a middle as the distributor for some of the shifts.

Galvin could be the modern Terry Lamb type backing up through the guts and scoring himself or throwing the last pass for plenty of tries.
