Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

What if we need to do the same with Taylan May?

Clearly he has some personal issues going on. Heck Terrell may have said "no".
Sounds like the guy should be training but is not ready for first grade any time soon.

Suli was a talented nightmare. Do we avoid that again?
I don't know May to really comment, nor Suli for that matter beyond reading articles about him.
I don't think Suli was a talented nightmare as such as needed more support than he was given. Sure as an athlete there is an expectation, as well as a contractual obligation, for him to maintain fitness and attendance standards. He was still the same bloke at Manly however they were able to look after him a little better and help him revive his career. There is no reason he could not have done that here with the same support he received at Manly.
My understanding of the situations is they are very different.
Suli's off field family distractions were through no fault of his own as a person. He didn't maintain standards but he also didn't know how, even if to most It is a simple concept. Suli seems the type of person I would happily put extra resources into and was thought to be a talent that would justify doing so.
May's off field issues are (almost) entirely brought upon himself through alleged actions that portray his negatively as a human being. I don't believe he is worth the drama, at least at this stage. I wouldn't say never but it appears as though he needs to do a lot of work on himself before he should be considered.

Waaaay to early to conclude Benji can coach!!Its always results /outcomes based...and we will all know a lot more in a month or two
Leading indicators (and thats all they are) are that senior international forwards wanted out in the off season..not a great sign, although none of them have exceled at their new club
Next indicator is how the younger players are developing...again its too early to form any conclusions The final indicator is whether elite young talent wants out..weve had some recent wins in Pole...but Galvin/Latu/maybe even Luai will provide a more fact based conclusion come Nov 1
.. if Benji finishes us near the bottom again it wont enhance his long term coaching prospects..nobody will back a loser
It is clear that he has an idea; what is not clear is how well he can coach. I stated that pretty clearly

I just love how Manly are loosing DCE... and the option of keeping Brooks, a person who played most of his NRL at Halfback is NOT CONSIDERED AT ALL!

I mean, not a look-in. Not even "hey you can stay at 5/8.." It's DCE is gone and we need 2x halves please!?

Ill give Siebold some credit for his hard no here.
I know right, tell a player you think they're hopeless without actually telling them they're hopeless. I was pretty shocked tbh. Seibold signed him for like 800k or about, I thought for sure they would have just gone to market for a halfback. But nah they're looking for a whole new halves combination. Imagine how Brooks feels now he's been told he can look elsewhere. England bound for sure. Still think if we didn't have Farah he would have made a really solid hooker. But he's no half. Still though a nearly 15 year career as a half he was no frills, has a few highlights, he's the guy you throw in when you know your other half has all your other needs covered. But if you need them to share the responsibility he just doesn't seem to have it.

From what i have heard we as a club did everything we could in supporting Suli, but he was just beyond help and would take no accountability or resposibility for himself, when he went to the dogs the same thing happened. It was only at the end of his tenure with Manly he found ANY self discipline and his form improved because of it.He got an improved new contact at the dragons and is not putting in the effort/discipline again although he is better than when he was with us.
A terrible waste of talent

Agree totally but for me if May's mental health issues had never been looked into then I wouldn't have a problem giving him a chance, if he gets himself help, is or isn't medicated depending on the professionals, he ends up mentally balanced and better, iv got no issue with it. Prior to getting help he's going to do things to "normal" society that seem abnormal, once he and the docs get on top of it and manage it he should be all good to go. Can put clauses in his contract that he must take his meds or continue to see his personal psych how ever many sessions the psych requires on a regular basis. Club could easily ask the psych for a letter simply stating he is turning up for his visits without breaching confidentiality. If the club are that concerned with it. Honestly I think if he has never done anything about it and is now finally starting to get it sorted, once he comes out the other end he will be a completely different person. The power the electricity firing in all our brains has is amazing.

Brooks has been told he can look elsewhere on the assumption manly will have a good crack and get Galvin for 2027 (brooks contract is up end of 2027) to get galvin in they need to use brooks salary he can try and leave a year early hence 2027.
manly will not be the only team queing up for Galvin im sure, if they don't sign galvin then I guess brooks sees out his contract for 2027

why am I 100% sure that Manly won't go for Galvin to replace DCE!

I mean they do make stupid decisions, but I don't think they are stupid enough to block Onrtoni large from being their 5/8. They will be looking for a halfback and I would suspect Adam Reynolds is high on their list...

Man Madge must hate Reynolds! I would have locked him up.
