That might be a bit harsh. We brought in Luai. The Dogs started with Burton & a bunch of guys. Both May's are in. Turuva is in. It's not like we are not in the marketplace. We just are not as far down the road.

Smart recruitment.
Connor Tracey has always been a high energy, all action player with plenty of speed and toughness. He was a regular standout whenever called up to NRL for the Sharks and consistently dominated NSW Cup.
This is why myself and quite a few others regularly bang on about looking closely at recruiting NSW Cuo or Qld Cup standouts.
Jacob Preston another prime example, he was killing it in NSW Cup for the Roosters for the best part of 2 years, making regular tackle busts, line breaks and scoring plenty of tries before being recruited by the Bulldogs.
Jacob Kiraz was off the charts with his stats in making plenty of tackle breaks and regularly making over 200 run metres for the Knights in NSW Cuo before being signed for a 2nd time by the Bulldogs.

My issue isn't with his ability to play backrow.
My issue is with our ability to win the middle.
I think Samuela gives us the best chance to do that. I can't see a middle on the market that offers what we need.
I think a guy like Fifita could though. On the edge.

I can’t remember anyone here ever suggesting the WT recruit Tracey..which is amazing given the amount of players that do get mentioned … he has been your definition really of a journeyman ..and as mentioned earlier,,,,just because he has had success at the Dogs, doesn’t mean he would have that success at the WT this season if he was playing here …
What about Montoya ? Again ..a player no one here would have ever suggested ..but he is playing better than his previous form would indicate or even allow …. He is obviously being well coached within a strongly defined system on both sides of the ball… those systems don’t exist at our club

yup , fringe first graders that can’t get a crack in the FG side . Thats how you build depth . Easy for bulldogs they have many recruitment officers because of a big money backing, as far as i can tell richo does it himself.

It’s not hard at all to find edges with speed, size, tackle bust and line breaking ability.
Sam Fainu is a keeper, but I’m adamant he lacks that explosive speed off the mark to make him an elite edge, but will offer plenty if moved back to the middle where he played most of his junior rep football.
If w don’t want to take the risk and pay the big money for someone such as David Fifita, we should then be looking at the likes of Simi Sasagi, Connelly Lemuelu, Kayliss Fatiofa as options who can provide us with the explosive speed, tackle bust and line breaking ability on an edge that we are currently so badly lacking.
Gee I wonder why with bunji switching the halves twice in the game adding to the one before the game started! FNI

The Tigers tried to get Tracy a few times first time Cronulla said no to a release and the second time he said no and went to the dogs

It seems hard for our club to find them …that’s why they have persevered with Seyfarth all year ..
And wanting to move the player of the year from last year at the position for some current no name isn’t the brightest idea I have heard from you today …

warriors are littered with young explosive edges, they have the most depth there currently. their cup team is flying. Benji needs to channel that kiwi connection and get some of them under his wing
bunty afoa and TMM would be good depth too , raid the warriors BENJI ‼️‼️

I feel this is correct he just isn’t hitting as hard as last year and it’s def and niggle injury hampering him , we know he can go well , him and KPP on the edges will be strong if both are fit , we need an aggressive middle , we also need Hunt back on the bench , last night we got 5 mtrs out multiple times only for Pole to get caught standing still where Hunt should have been barging in from 5 - 10 metres back , we score 2 tries early last night we win that game and we had many Chances to do this .
Connor Tracey was mentioned in this very thread multiple times before the Bulldogs signed him and so too was Montoya.
I do agree that the Bulldogs no doubt currently have much better coaching structures in place than what we do, but good players are good players, we do not currently have enough of them.

I agree with Chadster that Tracey would still be a relative nobody if he was playing with us these past two years
Probably true, so the bigger issue is why don’t we have the sufficient depth to allow him to rest and get back to 💯?
Recruitment and retention and talent ID is the problem here.
Connor Tracey wasn’t one I mentioned myself, but I was never against signing him and always agreed with those who did mention him.
What our current team lacks is players with explosive speed, those who hit top speed quickly and are fearless with their ball carries. I’m concerned young Luke Laulilli might be a touch too small, but he certainly fits into the explosive speed category.
The point I’m trying to make is we are bringing the wrong players in 90% of the time, so of course they won’t work if they don’t have the characteristics we need.
