Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

A common misconception is Madge got us to last.

It’s correct that we were going backwards but we didn’t spiral from 13th to last until Sheens threw Kimmorley under the bus.

This place makes everyone worse, coaches included.
Sheens could have quite easily given the job to Webster until the end of the season even though he was leaving at the end of the season to go to the 'Riff.

Webster only got to coach the one infamous game against the Cowboys where we were shamelessly rorted by Butler and Klown after full time.

I believe that Sheens knew that Webster could coach and was well liked by the playing squad so he threw Noddy under the bus because he feared Webster would have some success which could make his and Benji's efforts the following season look bad.

History tells us that it was really bad, the actions of Sheens got us to last.

Apparently there are coaches in the Super League that want a start. You make some very good points and I would love nothing more to see Benji do well. The problem is we don't seem to be improving much at all some say were going backwards and that's a concern. I just don't know how much longer he will persist. Watching him on the sidelines ride every play shows the pressure he's feeling. I just don't think he cam afford another spoon the media alone will make things pretty difficult. Remember most people were saying we would make the 8 and were very confident abt it.
Fk something needs to change.
Yes.

He looks like he’s having a few emotional problems with it all.

But we dragged sheensy in for his second coming. We have to accept some blame.

Pretty sure that was Gardiner - Webster was elevated to a game or two when. Cleary left

Absolutely, but upgrading our depth would also be a good thing.
The key to upgrading our depth is buying first graders. That way, guys like Seyfarth, Twal, Sukkar, Doueihi etc become depth players rather than starters.

A good example is our outside backs. Staines, Naden and Faataape were once starters and are now fighting for first in line call ups.

i’m a young girl but close enough lol it shows we are improving :

After 17 games 2024 v 2025 for the Wests Tigers

2025 has 2 wins more, 2 losses less, 3 places higher on the ladder, scored 41 points more and conceded 60 points less.

A points difference improvement of 101 points.

If WT improve by the same amount at the same time next year:

8W, 9L, For 375, Against 376, Pts Diff -1 Tigers would be ~11th and 1 win shy of the top 8.

big picture shows improvement, more cohesion in our attack which will come with a settled spine and we aren’t far away.
You shouldn’t say this stuff until you post mortem the full season.

I posted this in the Chammas Article thread the other day in response to BZN.

HBG is a not for profit. From the constitution:

The income and property of the Club howsoever derived shall be applied solely towards the promotion of the objectives of the Club as set forth in this Constitution and no portion thereof shall be paid or transferred directly or indirectly by way of dividend, bonus or otherwise by way of profit to the members of the Club.

The objectives are many but in short:
  • To provide for members and members' guests a social and sporting Club with all the usual facilities of a Club including: residential and other accommodation, liquid and other refreshment libraries and provision for sporting, musical and educational activities and other social amenities.
  • To assist generally in the promotion conduct and propagation of Rugby League football in the Rugby League Football District of the Western Suburbs of Sydney, or elsewhere, and to provide or assist in the provision of training and conditioning and teaching facilities for football played in accordance with the rules of the New South Wales Rugby Football League.
In my book they are investing much more into the first objective than the second - if I have it right (aand I may be incorrect) they are trying to make Wests Tigers profitable - that is not an objective in the constitution.
Jolls could it just be an objective of Richo to make the Wests Tigers profitable without Hbg advocating for it. Perhaps this is something Richo is trying to achieve alone?

It could be, need to find an insider with knoweldge. I'm not sure to what end though except to fund his own staff as he is underfunded by HBG. Possibly trying to prove a point - cold be a KPI that has been issued by HBG linked to future funding.

My personal view is that Richo and WT should be focussed on one thing, and one thing only, and that is winning premierships.

it’s comparing from this time last year, nothing wrong with it
It doesn’t prove anything.
I could have said after round 10 we were a far superior team than last year.
5 & 5 this year as opposed to 2 & 7 + a bye last year.
If we still come last after round 27, then that would be an embarrassing statement wouldn’t it?

well it does because the numbers show improvement as of right now… can only go off now. quite obviously that can change. common sense dude

No it’s not.
It’s conveniently using numbers to bolster a weak argument.
It’s the same weak argument that will praise us when we finish 15th this year….its an improvement but merely slightly less shit.

Here’s some tips for next weeks game benji 1) don’t try and take the titans forwards on , up the middle there weakness is out wide
2) take no dummmys from Campbell or Brimson , and make sure wingers stay out on there man
3) and for god sake get some depth in our attack with decoy runners
4) it’s not that bloody hard benji , u got a whole week to get it right
Decoy runners? Mate, that is so last week…we have a rule at Wests Tigers, no decoys, no shape, no supporting the ball carrier and never ever run to space,, always pick the closest defender amd run straight at their shoulder .. 5 hit ups and a kick to their tallest , safest winger … that will do us.. also, do not let Benji catch the dummy half being tricky and dummying to one side and going the other… that is unsportsmanlike.. make it bloody obvious what we are doing and continue to do it…Benji ball in Auckland …. But seriously last week almost broke me.. i want Benji to succeed but Jesus they need to start thinking and seyfarth is not a NRL forward if you want to win games… he has heart and he tries hard,, but is just not talented enough to… unfortunately

Lee and Pascoe to blame for that blunder.

Richo is better but maybe not the best in the business like a lot were saying when he arrived.
Yes, Lee, Pascoe and the disgraced board. It was a troubled concept from the start to appoint Tim as football manager or whatever his creative title was. Madge was no doubt uncomfortable with the vulture watching over him. Symbolically, it was a breach of trust. So ironic that Tim ended up meeting the same fate.

As for Richo, he’s been quite indulgent lately with his long missives and left himself somewhat vulnerable. I’ve written about it on the Richo thread.

I’m trying to deal with him in an objective light.

@Vicious has observed that the roster is more or less under-performing and is inconsistent. I happen to share that view. It’s all evidenced based.

Coaching is all about getting players to their optimum as often as possible. Benji isn’t getting there.

But Richo is packaging this up as something quite different. He does it deliberately as he believes it’s a critical part of his job. It may well be, but it’s exhausting to listen to!!

And as an intelligent man, he mixes truth with fiction to make it harder for people to question.

And he’s quite affable, charismatic and charming in delivery. Personable and likeable.

I don’t know if it’s a recipe for success, it’s not looking that way atm (sadly).
