Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Agree. I think I've seen Toa have about 1 good game and that when we pumped NQ by about 60 pts a few years ago. Other than that, I don't think he'd play 1st grade for anyone else. He can beat it with Twal. Both are ineffective in their positions. (Spare me Twals stats too, he's a work horse but that hasn't helped us win).

To'a has about 4 good games a season where he looks like a world beater.

The remaining 20 games he's either injured or doesn't look interested.

His defensive application is awful.

I'm not doubting the 1.8 million grant from HBG but you only use the dogs as a comparison - what about throwing in Warriors, Cronulla, Manly, and Canberra who are all in the bottom 6 clubs for commercial revenue yet 2 are in the Top4, 1 is in the 8 and 1 is just outside the 8. They seem to be doing ok on not much more than the tigers.
I chose Canterbury because they are right in the middle and they happen to be a geographic competitor. Makes more sense than comparing with say, the Broncos or Dolphins.

Since 2000, teams on the list from 1-6 have won 17/25 premierships. Parramatta are in that list and have won 0...so 5 clubs have won 17 of the 25 grand finals since 2000.

I'll exclude the Dolphins because they are new, but from the remaining 10 teams you have 8/25 premierships and Manly won 2 of them. The gap in success starts to look pretty dire when viewed over the long term.

I guess if your logic is to only look at the now, then you're right. 2 clubs are doing ok with little revenue. We also won something once...don't you want to do it more regularly?

This post had me thinking back to Kerry Packer’s classic senate estimates spray when he told the powers that be -

“I am not evading tax in any way, shape, or form. Now, of course I am minimising my tax, and if anybody in this country doesn't minimise their tax, they want the heads read. Because as a government, I can tell you you're not spending it that well that we should be donating extra.

HBG could well mount the same argument 👍
Then sell the joint to someone or a consortium who has half a clue about business and building success who actually sees the value in the club as something more than their personal plaything for them to get free gameday seating and drinks from. HBG are deadbeat owners. If they don't realise we're struggling because they're underfunding us they're complete morons.

Yeah mate, well they certainly can't go much lower can they?

Maybe they want to break the record for the most amount of wooden spoons in a row?

Do the sponsors meet that clown Burgess? If I was a sponsor I'd run if I knew he had anything to do with my sponsorship money.

I think the Mole is off with this info.
Old news.

We've got more important things to work out from our end.

ADs future.
Buds future.
If we're keeping Staines, Tuitupou and KMapz.

Strengthening our pack.
I don't think we'll bring in too many more external recruits for next season but I'd like to think that Alofiana Khan-Pereira, Siliva Havili, Siofifa Talakai & Adam Elliott are on our radar.

No big names but they all fill gaps in our roster ...

Khan-Pereira - much discussed on here already but is an out-and-out speedster & finisher. With doubts about the futures of Naden, Staines (even To'a) moving forward, he puts pressure on Skelton straight away which is always good to have in a squad.

Havili - ideal as our #14 to relieve Api and slot into the middle other times off the bench for some punch. Hope is a waste as a #14 & Mason is not ready.

Talakai - ideal as our bench backrow/centre cover and could come on for middle impact too. Upgrade on Bird for this role.

Elliott - without finding a ball-playing lock, he would be better at lock than Twal or Seyfarth with his experience, line speed, effort plays and actually does have a bit of ball playing which has been muzzled under O'Brien. What he also brings is a loud experienced voice on field which we don't have much of.

Then if he's still available come November 1, I'm opening up the cheque book for Keaon Koloamatangi to come on board from 2027 as a starting prop. Love what KK has done since his move to the middle. It would have to be a $$$ thing as a I can't see him leaving the Rabbits otherwise.
