Was a pretty average performance today really. The game never really felt close, nor should it have been based on the quality of the 2 sides. Left plenty of points out there, through goal kicks and pushing the extra pass.

Some of the best players for me were Max Taotua (who picked up a 2nd half hat trick and was strong with ball in hand), Taupau-Moors looked strong with ball in hand and got a lot more minutes today. Godinet had some great moments and showed that he has some ball playing skills on an edge too. Matai was very dangerous aswell.

Best on ground for me was Haywood though. Man he is a skilful and talented kid. Great deception and ability to know when to run and when to pass. Service is crisp.

Not much to add to that great summary TW.

Max Taotua had some barnstorming tries & is really putting his hand up to keep progressing in this club. Matai & Taotua have formed a good combo on the right.

Also thought Josese Lanyon was really good mainly on the defensive side today, strong in contact & couple of crucial tackles.

Really pleased with efforts of our development guys for next season, Haywood, Godinet & Taupau-Moors.

Also thankful we have some goal kickers coming to the club next season (Madden, Andrews) because there are none in this bunch lol

Gee, what a disappointing effort today. The boys walked out there acting like they thought they'd just win 100-0 by walking over the field. Didn't take their opponents or the conditions seriously.
Should have scored at least 60 in reality, but were also outplayed for most of the first half.
I think Haywood might get a pass mark from me today, everyone else was a 4/10 at best.
No one was awful, no one was great. Everybody was extremely average. I was disappointed in Taotua today, made a lot of bonehead plays, but yes still scored 3, the last one being a good line, the rest were basic.
Deininger was uncharacteristically poor. Fiji played pretty well, had a number of big boys, just outclassed on a few key moments. We stripped then for numbers and scored out wide most of the time.

Good Evening

Just want people's opinions we have the following halfback players who have been solid without showing that real potential players like Iverson Matai, Marc Tannous, Max Liles, Levi Conti, have we as a club A) Failed to properly develop our halfbacks B) failed to identify the correct players to develop and sign to long term deals C) failed to bring in outside coaches to help our half's development.
The reason i just saw Alex Conti recent game management and cannot understand why we let hm go without a real plan or other players been developed behind him.

We chose Galvin, Luai and Latu so our youngsters wouldn't stay without a clear path to first grade. They all still went to other clubs where their path to football was even less clear.
We failed to recruit replacements for Conti, Large and Isdale. Why? Who knows. Did we over estimate the quality of the players we still had? Why are players happy to be blocked at other clubs but demand top 30 deals to stay here?
You can't keep them....
All the players you mentioned will never play higher than NSW cup level. Liles is decent at flegg level, but hasn't shown he has the ability to step up to higher levels. The others even less so.
The recent signing of Andrews helped re-fill the stocks, especially if he's not top 30.
Looking at our sg ball and matts squads there still appears to be no decent halves coming through, someone might kick on or enter the system though.

Yep agreed.

According to the commentators yesterday Latulipe was still the coach and Saukuru and Godinet's names were reversed haha. Dont think they have commentated many Tigers games.
A couple of questions:

1. I've heard a bit about Shane Sultana and he's highly rated. What do you think he offers compared to others?

2. Do you think Haywood is a better prospect than Da Silva and that's why they were happy to let him go?

Possibly...and I'm only speculating...our value to players is the ability to play NRL sooner than at other clubs. At least, it has been prior to this season. If that path is blocked, they want to move to a club that offers better development?

To be honest, halfs at the Tigers have a better chance of making first grade than the other clubs, how many coaches would have given Galvin a shot at half so early? I think these halfs have has their managers in their ears making out the other clubs are much greener pastures. Conti, Large and Isdale are all way down the pecking order at those other clubs.

Probably a bit of all of the above @Bellend

Matai came into our system from the Bulldogs as he was lower down their pecking order. Has shown good (often great) attacking ability but his defence has let him down to date. Liles was via the Titans system from memory so another who mustn't have been high in the halves priorities of his former club. Solid in all aspects, just doesn't seem to have that 'factor' that screams NRL potential imo. Tannous I hold out hope for, seems a very good game manager type, good on both sides of the ball, would just like him to develop more of a threatening running game.

Unfortunately circumstances of apparent blocked pathways have meant the likes of Large, Alex Conti & Isdale have left. But jury is out on all 3 as they haven't really kicked on at their current clubs for varying reasons (Isdale injury, Conti going ok but behind a logjam now & Large probably won't accept he's a better fullback or centre than half atm).

Wouldn't be surprised to see Alex Conti return though and form a JF scrumbase with Tannous next season (especially if Javon Andrews is earmarked for Cup).

But in answering your question, I think C has a lot to do with it. It'd be great to have a specific halves coach in our academy to work with these guys and we have some good ones coming through in Christian Azzi & Jhevon Lele too. Maybe Noddy will be moved on from NRLW coach to do this or we could add weight to the rumour of Cooper Cronk coming to the club maybe in this capacity lol

Not sure on 1 only that his record this season speaks for itself. If we did a competition table since he started as coach, I bet we are in the top 3.

2 Purely my opinion I think Haywood has better dummy half IQ & craft than TDS and better passing game both sides. TDS being 2 years older is stronger & better defensively than Haywood atm but that gap will close as Jared physically matures & does more pre-seasons. TDS better explosive running game but Haywood is no slouch either.

tbh Galvin & TDS leaving could be the best thing for the club long-term as bad as that sounds. Galvin has proven to be an immature tosser & TDS has plenty of flaws to work on still.
