Good game for the Magpies. Some impressive performances.
Not pretty at times, but a very gritty win.
Plenty players in this team are a work in progress and wins like this will be a big boost to their confidence.
Special mention to Patrick Herbert. He wasn’t perfect, missed the one on one tackle to the try conceded, but he’s a real competitor who rips in and plays physical on both sides of the ball and I think he really opens the eyes and leads by example for our emerging players.
Bunty and Mav Geyer do similar in the forwards and Charlie Murray continues to be a real honest toiler who I’m sure will play a part in our NRL squad at some stage of the season.
Overall there were plenty of impressive individual performances and a well deserved win.

Was going to go as outside the eighth wonder of the world, Henson oval is my favourite ground. Great pies and good beer at pub prices and it’s only a few kms from home. Great to see them win especially with a few kids been promoted to fill some gaps. Love to know how Brooks went at fullback, this kid could be our answer to the Bula saga.

Brookes impressed me with his comfort level. He didn't have any wow moments but they put him under pressure a lot and he fielded some challenging kicks, helped stop a cpl tries at the death and zoomed around at the back holding the defense together very well. Very willing to take carries but didn't get many ops to shine in attack.

Basically excelled in the areas where you'd worry he might not. Which is good signs if you ask me.

Thanks J Mac you have talked this boy up for a few years now, he looks a footballer to me, he glides across the field, just hope we dont lost him. If Bula wants to go let him go!!!

I am embarrassingly ill informed compared to the knowledgeable folks who actually watch the lower grades regularly but far out I thought he moved well and looked a footballer in the trials, even though Attard probably got more wraps.

I think Brookes has a better chance of succeeding in NRL than Attard. As you mentioned, often the basics that are crucial at the top level go unnoticed when watching lower grades and flashy plays make the highlights.

From what I have seen Brookes has a bit of both. I remember hearing from some mates that a young Nathan Cleary was making junior team because of his name. When I first saw him play live he wasn’t exciting however always had a good kicking game, communication and solid defence.

Yes, it's an interesting ground with a lot of history. It's a bit strange looking with a car park in the middle and one, solitary old grandstand on one side. I remember driving out there to see Newtown v Manly many years ago. I used to like Newtown. Was a bit of a Siggy fan!

Great to have some depth coming through behind Bula although Brookes will probably get bigger money to go to Roosters or one of those clubs. I could see him possibly getting a run with us on the wing to start with in NRL whenever that time comes.

Good to here people talking up a few young guys , people who go watch the lower grade , it’s sounding like we have 4 or 5 good ones coming along , good to hear

It’s the only way the club can succeed. You need a good flow of quality kids coming through to replace players who are leaving. No club can afford to go to the market place to fill their whole roster

The one area we are a little bit thin is wingers and centres coming through.
Logan Brookes makes good yardage out of the danger zone and has a knack of breaking tackles even when there are 2 or 3 players in the tackle which is a little bit similar to Luke Laulilli who we are going to miss.

Told people we do not have to worry about if or when Bula, this kid wants to be here and is a real good footballer.

Will be a great tussle between Brookes & Attard to be Bula's deputy, not ruling out Tavana either. But Brookes has greater scope than Attard including physicality to also be a very good centre or winger. With his power & acceleration, I do get Kotoni Staggs vibes.
