Good game for the Magpies. Some impressive performances.
Not pretty at times, but a very gritty win.
Plenty players in this team are a work in progress and wins like this will be a big boost to their confidence.
Special mention to Patrick Herbert. He wasn’t perfect, missed the one on one tackle to the try conceded, but he’s a real competitor who rips in and plays physical on both sides of the ball and I think he really opens the eyes and leads by example for our emerging players.
Bunty and Mav Geyer do similar in the forwards and Charlie Murray continues to be a real honest toiler who I’m sure will play a part in our NRL squad at some stage of the season.
Overall there were plenty of impressive individual performances and a well deserved win.

Was going to go as outside the eighth wonder of the world, Henson oval is my favourite ground. Great pies and good beer at pub prices and it’s only a few kms from home. Great to see them win especially with a few kids been promoted to fill some gaps. Love to know how Brooks went at fullback, this kid could be our answer to the Bula saga.

Brookes impressed me with his comfort level. He didn't have any wow moments but they put him under pressure a lot and he fielded some challenging kicks, helped stop a cpl tries at the death and zoomed around at the back holding the defense together very well. Very willing to take carries but didn't get many ops to shine in attack.

Basically excelled in the areas where you'd worry he might not. Which is good signs if you ask me.

Thanks J Mac you have talked this boy up for a few years now, he looks a footballer to me, he glides across the field, just hope we dont lost him. If Bula wants to go let him go!!!

I am embarrassingly ill informed compared to the knowledgeable folks who actually watch the lower grades regularly but far out I thought he moved well and looked a footballer in the trials, even though Attard probably got more wraps.

I think Brookes has a better chance of succeeding in NRL than Attard. As you mentioned, often the basics that are crucial at the top level go unnoticed when watching lower grades and flashy plays make the highlights.

From what I have seen Brookes has a bit of both. I remember hearing from some mates that a young Nathan Cleary was making junior team because of his name. When I first saw him play live he wasn’t exciting however always had a good kicking game, communication and solid defence.
