Again all I care about is winning games. The rest of that stuff will work itself out when we start winning more games. The argument is:
- While Doueihi had a career game last week he has a track record going back to his time at Souths of being a mediocre half most of the time. The likelihood that the 'real' Adam Doueihi is what we saw last week versus the rest of his career in the halves is pretty tiny.
- While it's great to win games the reality is we're a vanishingly small chance of making finals this year, and even if by some miracle we did we're an even smaller chance of going anywhere in finals. On that basis, we are much, much better off using all the games available to give the player who might be our long-term halfback first grade experience in the role.
It is completely illogical to move Latu straight back in at halfback because he “might” be our long term halfback. Let’s pick the side each week that gives us the best opportunity to win.
For what it’s worth, based on what I’ve seen, I don’t think AD or Latu should be our long term halfback. AD, Latu and Luai are all 5/8’s. We need a quality, controlling half to guide us around. I said at the time when he was available we should have a massive crack at Fogarty but Manly locked him up pretty quickly.
