HBG, Independent Directors Sacked

"Romero's downfall comes after a turbulent tenure. She not only removed her predecessor but also oversaw the departure of directors Rick Wayde and Dave Gilbert over the summer.

Tensions intensified when Romero opposed an independent governance review of the Wests Tigers following a hat-trick of wooden spoons - a review that was nonetheless conducted by respected administrators Tony Crawford and Gary Barnier.

That review ultimately handed power to CEO Shane Richardson, who has since implemented a number of its recommendations, reportedly to Romero's displeasure.

Her resistance to reform and the perception of internal obstruction may have cost her crucial boardroom support, culminating in this week's vote.

Burgess's elevation may be viewed with suspicion by some within the Balmain camp who fear a reassertion of Magpies control, despite the formal equal representation structure in place at the Wests Tigers board level."

Interesting that Romero got removed because she didn't want to implement to recommendations, but Burgess has them put into place.

"Burgess's appointment is already drawing scrutiny. According to the SMH, he reportedly told Balmain-aligned Wests Tigers director Danny Stapleton, “We're bringing back the Wests Magpies,” a comment that quickly caught fire behind closed doors and reached the desk of NRL chairman Peter V'landys via concerned Wests Tigers chair Barry O'Farrell."

“1000%. It was admitted to me directly by someone who is a director of the Magpies.
“The ultimate aim is to return the Magpies to the NRL.
“I know there were discussions not too long ago about extracting Balmain from the Wests Tigers and returning them to the State Cup.
I was approached at the time and I said I had no interest in partaking as long as Danny Stapleton is the chair of Balmain. I don't trust the man and I don’t like the man."

Here we have 2 accounts of a similar story- bringing back the Magpies. One reported as being told to Danny Stapleton, the other recounted by Hagi who in the same statement says he doesn't trust Stapleton.

So....do we believe Stapleton? Or Hagi? Or neither? And if Romero gets removed & Burgess gives the go-ahead on the recommendations, does that mean Burgess agreed with the recommendations?
Out of all the back stabbers on the board I never understood Lee obsession with Danny Stapleton. Lee never said a bad word about burgess and only picks on Stapleton??

Unless the coaching staff decide they want out, I don't think anything changes for next season at all.

By which time, a new CEO, board & front office will be in place & have an opportunity to put things in place.

Decisions from Bula & Luai MIGHT be impacted, for future seasons. But they were already under some scrutiny anyway.
Bula and Luai were here as long as Richo and Benji were

This unnecessary shake up puts both in jeapordy.

I hope Benji stays and has the same backing that richo gave him .
We need stability after this.
It’s not the first time there’s been turmoil on a football club board manly and dogs spring to mind

My question is though if an independent board is set up. At what point did hbg realise that they are then set up to make independent decisions .

Well, if this is true, it explains the motives somewhat.

The sad reality is what is put up in this forum most of the time is speculation or conclusions drawn with out clarity of evidence.
When I heard that the directors were sacked I deliberately haven’t fully read any threads just jumping to the last page and reading so I don’t get invested into the dilemma too much
Won’t really know how this will affect my support until it comes out the other side

Like others have cancelled my Kayo account, have emailed both the football club and the licensed club to cancel my memberships. I have also advised the NRL of my membership cancellations.

One person’s action will change nothing but people power will and although under their current debenture system they are answerable to nobody, enough noise can break down their castle.

We can’t let them get away with it, it’s our Club

He has only shown any concern for Wests Tigers where you deep down still carry a torch for the Magpies, this a WT forum can you not see the double standard.
UPDATE: If one is deemed to have “only shown concern for Wests Tigers” one is allowed to use a Balmain avatar but if Fisherman Steve uses his extraordinary mind reading skills to drill down into your psyche and reckons you still hold a torch - then no Western Suburbs avatar shall be allowed.

I think the review was only initiated after the fans revolted. Is that right @cochise ?

Not sure what Stapleton has to do with any of this? He has no power at Holman Barnes

Out of all the back stabbers on the board I never understood Lee obsession with Danny Stapleton. Lee never said a bad word about burgess and only picks on Stapleton??
And unlike almost everyone on this forum, he knows and has worked with both Burgess & Stapleton 🤔

Is that your big problem? That I have a Balmain related avatar? I have changed it multiple times over the years, sometimes WT and sometimes a Balmain related one. You're the only bloke that's ever said I have some pro-Balmain agenda...think what you like, but you're on your own. I think you'll find, if you actually bother to do any research, I was quite happy when Wests took majority ownership if it meant the infighting would stop as I believed it was holding us back.

For the same reasons, I want HBG gone because I believe the infighting is holding us back....again.

You have a very low resolution outlook on life.

Oh heaven forbid that Stapleton
should draw any criticism 🤣🤣🤣

How long’s he been on our much loved Board?
I don't even know what the complaint about Stapleton is other than Lee making some vague comment about his personal feelings towards him.

What did he do? I don't protect anyone if they are bad for the club.

All you have illustrated is the level of dysfunction that has been the frustration for the supporter group who have bothered to look into it, and who don't have allegiances to the people making decisions but believe that the club needs more professional stable governance.

This shouldn't be an exercise of who do you believe - they have all put self preservation and infighting ahead of the best interests of the club - that is the problem.

You didn't add the pod that Richardson put out with Romero by his side emphatically endorsing her, and her absolute support for all the decisions he had made and that he wouldn't be here if it wasn't the case - prior to the independents being announced.
She lasted half a year after that - 8 year ban I believe and havnt heard a peep from her - and now he and his independents are gone too. None of it makes sense but what is clear it's a numbers game and things can turn quickly

They are group of paranoid entitled's not promoted through talent and while the merry go round continues the club remains in a holding pattern.
