HBG, Independent Directors Sacked

Possibly … but it’s an argument that doesn’t stand up to a lot of scrutiny , as any fan of the club under late 30s would be too young to really recall the parents of the JV ..so it’s all irrelevant for them ? What do they make of all this ? What other sporting team anywhere has to contend with this ?

I dont know what further recognition would have satisfied the old Magpies fans… and who should it have come from ? The Balmain Fans? The Media? The team? What could they have said or done to change things ?

Nothing. Look at how deluded the chairman of HBG is... Lives in fantasy land.

PVL was pleased the HBG acted professionally and were willing to accept the independent directors back. What a load of spin. Of course HBG were happy with the outcome, they now have control, they still have the debenture system and they rolled Richo who they saw as a danger.

What did the members and fans get, absolutely nothing, same old same old inept HBG controlling the clubs fate. All PVL did was to try and create a veneer that the club is now back on track.

Look, the issue isn't with ownership outright. The issue is that the ownership are moronic. Winning is not on their radar. It's entirely possible to have a board that just let the footy people do their thing.
Spot on Laundy owning us would be win , a big win as they are able to do thing in multiples , they are use to handling big money and it’s their money so they are not dumb , we would be very competitive in the market and field , this would be a great outcome if HBG sold up to them

Exactly! We’ve heard this before many times. It’s really tragic that the club has burnt so many good people in the process, including admin staff, coaching and players. A trail of destruction.

Problem is the team is branded the Tigers, so they're fighting a losing battle. No one is paying attention to their Magpie heritage.

I'm not sure it's over mate.

There seems to be alot of people putting HBG on the radar of ASIC... Whether they have something to hide or not, the last thing anyone needs is an audit.

And it makes me wonder what specifically PVL had up his sleeve to force their hand... You don't just reinstate 4 sacked board members because PVL asked nicely...
Apparently he was threatening to install an administrator, I'm assuming he didn't think the HBG excuse held water.

Do you think the three Independent Directors …just reinstated after a firestorm that had the potential to do damage to their careers …. Have decided to go back for potentially more of the same ? I don’t see why they would bother to be someone else’s sock puppet….who cares who they report to if they are outvoted every time … There has to be more to the story ..
You might be right Tom.

I actually agree with you...that's why it's so strange.

What we do know is despite all this, they agreed to return.

Naturally, the next question is only under what circumstances?

Something...some assurance...some way of working, at least in principle and at least sounding good enough on paper, has given them the confidence to return.

To me...the only way I would personally consider it, and begrudgingly at that, would be if I was a WT board member in name only but, for all intents and purposes, an NRL administrator in function.

Otherwise, like you, I cannot understand why they would return. There's going to be bad blood there.

The matter of the NRL allowing an HBG majority board is ludicrous, but the NRL thinks that conceding a majority with some oversight is better than "taking over" and facing a legal challenge with all the media scrutiny that comes with it. Remember...Vegas is around the corner....all this would steal headlines from that.

The other thing is the NRL has a lot of anecdotes and complaints, but has anyone produced hard evidence? By having NRL oversight via the independents, it could be a way to start building a first hand understanding of what the hell is going on in there.

There's way more to this that isn't being revealed. We just don't know what that is.
