Why?

Is that what is missing from Bula- kicking game & ball playing ability? Isn't that what Doueihi & Luai & Madden & Latu do?

How many kickers do we need?

The amount of people saying we need to be more direct to open up Luai, & that is why Madden is basically Ivan Cleary's replacement a SOO this year, to then see people say we need the king of sideways movement at fullback to unlock our attack...

Starting to think people just believe what they want...
 
There’s one name I think about lately re. This Bula stuff . If Bula did go , and the knights continue to win as is …. And we continue to win … What would man named Ponga say to wearing the black white and orange ? With Benji as coach … I don’t think it would be zero … A 2 year deal then he can go to French rugby or PNG and get his 2 mil and we can field one of our gun fullbacks . 6 weeks ago it would be dream team stuff … but now ? I honestly don’t think it’s that far fetched ..

I’ve heard 1,6m tossed up for him.

And he can pick up an injury.

I've got a far less popular suggestion.

But mine wouldn't need the Tigers to change their playing style all that much to accommodate a new fullback.

If for whatever reason the Tigers lose Bula, Tyrell Sloan would be the guy I'd look at.

I'd even make the prediction- he'd be the NRL leading try scorer or close to for the season.

It's unfathomable that an attacking weapon like Sloan can't get a run in Dad's Army at the moment.

If you're happy to take Trai Fuller, you should have no issue taking Sloan.

His defence is an issue . But with the ball he’s better than Bula IMHO. But Bula , whilst dropping a little from his kamikaze style which led to concussions and big injuries when he came in ,(he had to IMO.. like his career would be over before it began ) he has gotten infinitely better with recognising numbers and organising the defence … Sloan is not good at this .
But Bula wasn’t either … so an offseason with Hodgo… you never know . It’s a cheap option anyway . Personally I think he goes to play for Leeds and wins himself a man of steel .

You know what I find amazing about Sloan?

He's 23 years old, with 80 1st grade games in the bank & 48 tries in those 80 games.

And he's considered a fringe 1st grade player.

Bula is 24, has 60 1st grade games & 24 tries to his name, and is potentially worth $900k a season.

I would absolutely take the chance on a guy like that.

His defence is horrible bro . Positioning , effort areas and organisation . Like really bad mate . Like you gameplan for it bad . It’s my main issue with Drinkwater , only Drinkwater has amazing ball skills and stripping numbers . Which Sloan doesn’t .
I see what you’re focusing on , but I think I’ve been extrmelt
Consistent over the years that I watch both sides of the ball , and defence is really important to me . It’s to this if we just simply lost Bula and there was no other option , I’d offer him a contract for sure , but it would be with the knowledge that his defence isn’t good enough and he would be competing with Attard and Logan Deninger . But he would definitely have the jump on them as you’d want to think the coaches would back themselves to fix it . Benji and Hodgo and thier opinions on this would be critical to not just signing him , but what the strategy would be around him re. Placeholder , stop gap , gun player missing decent coaching etc.

Absolutely. He's not as complete a player as Bula & his defence is at best, average.

He's also a fraction of the cost.

The thing is if the money is there for Bula re. 1 mil it would’ve there for someone else . For me I’d give Ponga a 2 year 3 mil contract maybe 3 , with the message to the young guys that in 3 years one of you will be the nrl starting fullback .
Plus with Ponga you go from top 8 team … maybe fringe top 4 , to genuine premiership contender. And I pack Peter Moussa and his team . It’s not a coincidence we have had reduced soft tissue injuries since the COE has been built , and Peter Moussa has returned to the club.

Yeah Sloan is the worst defender I’ve seen in FG, Noffa on steroids.
 
Let’s see what Jahream produces on Sunday in a game we really need to win against the Knights at Campbelltown.
Even his biggest fans must acknowledge he has not featured in our top 3 players so far this season including our trial game, so surely he is due to step up and have his best game of the season, helping us to victory along the way.

I’ve considered him every game , he had a quiet trial game.

Our backrow and halves have probably outshone him, along with Api.

I can only find about 5 fullbacks in the NRL in better form than him, based on his consistency.

I just watched the game v Parra again specifically to watch Bula. I think your assessment of his lack of involvement in attack is a little off the mark. Bula can be seen on most sets hanging around the middle and postioning himself to support and he did plenty of work with ball in hand. He does not inject himself into the game so on that point you are correct, but his support play is very good. There is certainly room for improvement; so he has not reached his ceiling.

He has been overshadowed by the halves and the forwards to date - but his support play will see him come to the fore at times throughout the year. If you look back at Edwards, who you hold up as an example of what Bula is not, in his early days he struggled under the high ball and the pace of the game - to the point he was hooked at least once. Look at the player he has developed into.

still heard yesterday from an nrl player that Bula is going to Dogs.
I can't see why dogs would need Tracey and Bula however.
hoping the mail they have is wrong
 
It's a shame there's always talk about Bula leaving. A fullback who is good under the high ball, a good runner, and has a good instinct for sniffing out tries is good to have. For years, I have watched teams put up high balls against the Tigers and score after someone spills it. It's great to have safe hands at the back (I hope I haven't put the mocker on him).
