I remember my Wests Panthers in Brisbane in 1972
Won 13 games straight and won the minor premiership by a record 9 points
Arguably regarded the greatest club side in BRL history
And then bombed out of the finals in straight sets
John Sattler came to the club for the 73 and 74 season and they won the wooden spoon in 74
Came back and won the 75 and 76 Premierships

Was a good player Mcmahon, but a numb nut. He's lucky he didn't kill the Newtown player. he head butted Russell Fairfax in a Balmain V Roosters game in the late seventies at the SCG was sent and i think got 4 Weeks and also the time at LO playing the N. Syd Bears and he cover tackled thier second row forward Glen Boatswain into touch with his elbow to the jaw. I'm an old Balmain supporter and did like him as a player but he was a nasty piece of work.

As some of us await the NRL GF, we should remember the Western Suburbs Magpies 1933-34 team, which also finished with the Wooden Spoon one season and the next season, played in [& won] the GF.

The 1933-1934 Context
• 1933 Struggle: Wests started the 1933 season strongly before losing several star players to the Kangaroo tour of Great Britain, causing them to slide down the ladder and claim the wooden spoon.
• 1934 Redemption: Coached and captained by Frank McMillan, Wests bounced straight back to win the premiership by defeating Eastern Suburbs 15–12 in the 1934 Final at the Sydney Sports Ground.

He did many stupid things on the field and from what i have heard more than a few off the field as well.
