2012 Halfback Super-Thread

Up until the R.Lui allegations came about on Monday, I'd always criticised Todd Carney and how he should never play in the NRL again, after violating the Roosters alcohol code for the third time this year.

But now that we may be without a half-back (assuming Lui goes which I'd imagine he will) do you think we should make a play for Todd Carney? What I've been thinking is, if he joins a club (like the Tigers) who's off-field reputation and culture is one in envy of many teams, can he successfully integrate into our culture? Let's face it, the Roosters and the Raiders (his two previous clubs) have had a long string of off-field incidents dating back a while which may be as a result of a toxic culture off the field. I hope for his own good he doesn't join the Sharks, because their off-field culture is equally as bad, as was exposed on the Four Corners show a couple of years ago.

What do you think?

Here is an idea why don't we just back miller
Manly did it with DCE and it payed off.
sheens backed lui and it went ok
Lets back MILLER

Yes. Everytime i think of Miller i think of Daly Cherry-Evans

It's a waste of keyboard strokes even mentioning Carney IT WONT HAPPEN.

Tiger 99 - if Prince is on the cards how long do you reckon before the story starts to gather momentum ie in the media etc.?

Watching Cherry-Evans tonight and how he's developed this season when given the chance and the responsibility makes me wonder what Miller could do next year.

Give him the responsibility. Give him the chance. If we bring in a halfback then it's going to impact him mentally as it'd be obvious Sheens doesn't have confidence in him.

hmmm thats a toughy, ive always trusted 99 to be 100% correct, but i just can't see this happening!

Im not sure we want him, ive learnt to dislike him over the past few years. I guess if Lui is outed, Prince would be welcomed by many.

how would we fit Prince under the salary cap? unless he came cheap because the titans had to keep paying him?? and what about his family who wanted to move back north?? it would seem to be a long shot.. besides have the titans got a replacement half?

Exactly prince is on big money, if we get rid if lui, he is on no where near the cash that Prince would require.

Miller is close to the best half in NYC, despite an earlier post, but to get as hopeful that he would do what DCE has done is very optimistic.

DCE was SOOO dominant at NYC level and did a full year apprenticeship in QLD cup which is alot stronger than NSW cup at present and was player of the year, miller does not have that sort of form.

That said tho, Miller as pedigree, NSW U/18 player (and well deserved) coupled with NYC half back of the year, augurs well for a good NRL career, the question is, is 2012 too soon….Im not sure either way

A question Have we won a game of NRL with Miller playing at half ???? Didn't think we had

Can confirm Prince is on the cards!

hmmm it would be nothing more than a stop gap measure until Miller is ready. Not sure how I would feel if he came back, he hasn't exactly been setting the world on fire at the Titans, but they did alright last year and he's certainly got plenty of experience.

Don't know how we'd be able to afford him though, Lui is on what maybe $150-$200,000?

Not sure how it works but I think a part of his contract would come out of the coasts cap. Of course how much would be determined by how much the Coast are willing pay similar to Todd payten first contract with the joint venture, when the chooks were paying a fair chunk of his initial contract. I also was told we about 200g under the cap, but it was not a reliable source so could be crap

Some of you people are dead set kidding yourselves, Scott Prince is now old and slow, injury prone and way past his best, he has never been a good defender and will not help us one little bit.
I`ve heard other people mention Matt Orford, he`s much the same as Scott Prince only more past it.

The only player who is available, who we can sign for a good price and will ensure that we win the competition in `2012 is Todd Carney.
There is not a rival football side on the planet that could control Benji and Todd Carney at full flight, simple as that!

The answer is simple. We don't need to sign anyone. Benji to halfback, Lawrence to Five-Eighth.

Benji won the best player in the world award playing at 5/8, and Lawrence is our best outside back and one of the best centres in the game. Pending injury he would've player Origin this year.

Why move two of the best players in their respective positions?

I like your thoughts Vicious - Marshall and Carney would make a brilliant 6 & 7 so many attacking options and Carney will take the line on too which Lui very rarely does.

My only concern is could we control Carney ? If the Club has spoken to all the sponsors recently about Lui then I think they will also have to ensure the Sponsors are also onside with such a player joining the club if in fact he does join.

Not sure if 2 wrongs make a right - but if you could contol him wow !
