2012 Halfback Super-Thread

In all seriousness, if we're not going to entertain Carney (which by all reports sounds like we won't,) just throw Miller the guernsey. He has talent, and he doesn't have to be the new Scott Prince from the outset. We carried a dis-interested Prince, Johnny Cronk and an at times out-of-form Lui, so why can't we afford Miller the same concessions. The kid has mongrel… A shot at FG with someone ready to go behind him (i.e Tim Smith,) will give him the motivation to prove himself at the top level.

You dont want the Mitchell Pearce, the current origin halfback, yet in the next post recommend picking up Tim Smith who is no higher than 3rd choice (prob 4th) at Cronulla, the weakest club in the comp.

I'm more than happy to give Miller a crack, and most suggestions on here are just dreams.

but ive now read that DCE, Pearce, Prince and Wallace are all no good from various posters.

Perhaps we are hanging out for Thurston or Cronk, hell why not both….

Nice post Goose
unfortunately half backs don't grow on trees , and there is no point dreaming about signing a recognized one. reality is if we could afford to replace lui with one it would have happened this time last year . next year it is going to be Lui or Miller ,
I hope it is miller , with a full off season to prepare , I think he will be good enough ( And shifty says , that means he is old enough ) . With the forward pack we have next year , you can be assured he will be playing off good go forward ( think about how Shaun Johnson & DCE have gone this year ) , this coupled with the ability and further potential we all know he has makes me think he can be NRL rookey of the year next year.

the fact he's the incumbant NSW halfback doesn't say alot atm. Look around, he doesn't have much to compete with does he

The point of my post is give Miller a run with someone like Smith behind him who is trying to re-establish himself in the NRL to give Miller the motivation to succeed. Pearce, Prince, DCE and Wallace won't come cheap, Smith will.

I rate DCE, Prince and Wallace all very highly and they all wouldn't look out of place at WT (except for Prince who I don't want back on moral grounds!)

Miller was thrown into 1st grade this year. The funny thing is that he was ready then and he played well! … even with Benji and Robbie not letting him into the game much at all.

So why do people think he not ready now? Sure, he had a quiet end to the season. But he has showed what he is capable of.

When the Roosters are on top so is Pearce , as i said i dont like him as a player but once again that is only my opinion & i am sticking by it.

Sheens & McDonald where seen together watching the Vulkans in state cup.
Does that Isacc John play for them? If so maybe they where having a look at him??

Also sticking with the warriors. What ever happened to Seymor?
If he is out of favour across the ditch i think we could throw him a life line & he would on the cheap & is more than capable at filling in at 1/2back

I know I am dwelling on the past but we did make a massive blunder letting Moltzen go. Even before the latest incident, I like many thought Moltzen presented a much better proposition for us at half. :deadhorse:

I agree on Seymour, but I am sure he is signed to play ESL next year as is John,he may have a get out clause who knows what shifty was up to..

It was my understanding Pearce didnt wanna come here as he thought it would be like leaning on his dads name to make his way.
He's made his own name at the Roosters, I dunno if ''he doesnt wanna be here'' or ''he'll never play here'' applies….he's better than Lui imo

+1 - but its just all pipe dreams

I think the above Statements are on the money! Pearce is a fine footballer though I find it difficult watching and enjoying him play in a red white and blue jumper.

I am still not convinced that Jacob Miller is the answer to the Tigers playing in a Grand Final in 2012 (if Robert Lui is shown the door) and would be much more confident of success if the Tigers had the money and the confidence to sign "TODD CARNEY"! I know he has had his share of off-field issues but one NRL Club will sign him and he will bring instant success IMO(if he remains injury free).

Hopefully Miller can fill the boots next year although surely the club will HAVE to sign another half. Purely due to depth. If Miller goes down injured there will have to be a complete reshuffle of positions or another player such as Sironen be brought into the squad. Apart from say Nathan Waters who else do we really have?

My "mail" which prob the wrong word (from a recruitment officer from another club), is back miller, and back him hard, definately NRL standard, and will be a career halfback.

I've heard many 'qualified' punters state the same… He is rated very highly and I'm also a fan of what I have seen. But...

I'm not convinced he is the right balance to our current team. I feel Jacob plays his best football when he controls the ruck and runs the team. He is very dominant and has plenty of time when he is calling the shots (much like DCE). But he is not gona get that luxury from Robbie and Benji to do so for a little while yet, so I'm prepared to wait...

I've heard the same thing Goose from a few people. I think when he got his shot in first grade earlier in the year he was still a bit raw, remembering he was only 18yrs of age. couple that with the aura of playing with Benji and Farah after only training with the squad for one of season and it's a huge task. I think with this year under his belt and a full off season with the first grade squad he will definitely be more equipped to take control of the team. He has all the right ingredients but there is a lot to be said about confidence in a young player, and if he can get that confidence and believe in his ability then I reckon he can make a good fist of the job! Plus his goal kicking would also add another dimension to our team, but I dare say Sheens wouldn't heap that responsibility on him until he has had a year of top grade footy under his belt.

I think that style player is what we need, someone to do the organising and let Benji and Robbie come up with the big plays. I agree that at first it may not be a great fit why he becomes established, as he may get overruled, but long term he can be the director.
