2019 Coaching saga -Thread

Be funny if Gus changes his mind..Sorry Iv we going with Ciraldo after all..

Well we shouldn’t hear anything for a while. O’Neill stated this week that if Ivan became available they’d have a conversation. Obviously they haven’t met previously and coaching has not been discussed. It would take a few weeks to start formal discussions, agree to terms, draw up a contract etc etc. If Cleary became Panthers coach this week one would have to assume lies had been told! Surely not?

Don’t know how to post it but I just saw on Facebook a Paul Crawley tweet: “at what point does Ivan Cleary owe WestsTigers fans an explanation?”
This is not going away any time soon😉

Saturday 11 August was a good opportunity.

? Thanks!

We got a Premiership winning Coach, Souths got a Premiership Coach, Manly got a Premiership winning Coach…....Penrith got Nathan Cleary's Dad........

As much as I dislike Crawley I’d be really happy for him to push this at every presser that Ivan does going forward into 2019.
You can’t hide from this forever Ivan.
Man up you dog.

There was a middle road and that was to make an announcement that Cleary had been released and leave it there. That would have been consistent with most fan wishes. I'm not sure you can call it the high road to make public statements that you really don't believe.

What Go said was all factually correct. He has left us in a much better position to succeed.
The Tigers move on with the upper hand after it could have become another debacle.

I have to disagree there. With the exception of Mbye, Thompson and to a lesser extent Matulino Cleary's recruitment has been very disappointing.

I still think Reynolds can play a vital role next year.
Are you saying we are not better off then when Taylor left us? We were lucky to get a coach at that point. If Ivan doesn't come we play out the season with Webster.

Taylor’s idiocy and incompetence is well documented, but he didn’t have the opportunity to rebuild the roster that Cleary did. Taylor got us to 9th in his last full season with the club. Ivan couldn’t do any better and that was with the majority of the team being new recruits that he put together.

Reading that article, it could be interpreted that Ivan had to pay compensation as part of the agreement to release him. If so, how sweet it is!

You just wonder about the effectiveness of the NRL & Greenturds effectiveness in all of this. An embarrassing coaching merry go round that just gets the main stakeholders in the game offside through the uncertainty that has persisted for months - sponsors, players & the fans. No control over the clubs or player managers and zero leadership.

I thought it was a good sign for the quality of WT management. Yes we got bullied by a stronger club, but they secured a well regarded coach, before the commencement or pre-season and with some compensation.

I'm sure you're 100% correct. There's a clear indication that there was a compensation arrangement between Cleary and WT. Sounds like he paid himself out of his contract.

IC better make sure it all works out at the Panthers 'cause he won't be getting another gig in the NRL methinks.

I hate to say it but yes he would. I thought there would be no chance Hasler would coach again after ruining the salary cap at 2 clubs, but look after 12 months someone is desperate enough to give him another go. Just glad it wasn't us!

Yes but in the process of ruining those salary caps he won a few premierships, made a few more grand finals and had his teams in the finals almost every year. Big difference between his record and that of Cleary (at this stage at least).

Just glad it's all done and we can move onto the pre season and next season won't be disrupted.

I think we've come out of it pretty good.

I think Penrith are going to regret the father son thing, Nathan is going to be Ostracised from his team mates, they'll have to be careful about how they speak around him in fear of it getting back to dad.

Who would want to be around that environment, in my opinion we dodged a bullet.

Had a few days away up in wine country so have missed the latest round of posting. Hopefully by now everyone is moving forward with the official announcements. We can finally move on. Hopefully all who dug in their heels and refused to believe this was happening have softened their stand somewhat.

Yep it’s a disaster waiting to happen as soon as Nathan’s or the teams form dips and one of them are under pressure.

I think JT lucked in with having Tedesco on board. Anyway - onwards and upwards with Madge. It only takes one quality recruit to significantly change success. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens over the pre season!

I don't understand how he still thinks he's the victim here. He plays it out as if Penrith didn't contact a contracted coach. Delusional

When it doesn’t sell papers any more it will cool off

I don't think the vitriol thrown at Ivan Cleary is worthy of us. Of all the coaching changes announced over the last week, Ivan has the most pressure on him than any of the others. I hope he manages it well, for both him and his family.
