To win a comp, you need skinny years and watershed years. Our best years are going to be in 2 or 3 when our juniors are at the peak of their game.
By releasing players, you can shift backloaded cap to this year and reduce it in the forward years when we are at this peak, maybe signing a couple more game breakers or getting solid depth for our title run.
We know we have issues in this area as happy mentioned tedescco was offered under his current salary for year 1\. Which means we must have had a hell of a lot of back loading.
Blair wasn't going to be the difference to us winning a premiership next year as we weren't going to come close.
JT is being smart. We will not only gain from shifting these payments forward but getting early experience into our juniors.
You never know with the young talent too…they might just outperform expectations. So the year won't be a write off.

I'm extremely happy with the decision. I think everyone will see in time it's part of a larger plan.
