Adam Doueihi #227

It’s easier to look like a star in a really really poor side when he was playing 6.

Today, the team is infinitely stronger and he looks like the player he probably is. Hence the debate over his place.

I’m not sure he fits in but the backline is shallow so he might just get another chance.

If AD is our starting centre God has deserted us.
Well I think you better prepare yourself coz imo he’ll be in the early sides. What happens later will be up to him.
It’s quite intriguing how we’ve got 3 perennial problem players ( Douehi, Toa and Naden) all still there, and supposedly looking better than ever.
Who knows what might happen !

He is in consideration for sure and I would be dissapointed if Taruva, Skelton, Toa, Naden, Faataape and Feledy aren't also given the opportunity to impress in the trials.

He has had a long time to have a good hard look at his game and recalibrate his own opinion of himself. He has had ample time to work on his mental approach to the game, his aversion to tackling and his brain explosions in commitment to the defensive game plan.

The ball is in his court; if he can turn it around he deserves a chance. If his change of heart about being a half and his dedication to paying back the faith is not just fluff I'll support him. I have serious doubts that the leopard can change his spots though.

“Training the house down” I take it?

I just want to point out that Turuva was recruited as a centre when we signed him .
And apparently Skelton has been training at centre the majority of the offseason by all reports .
I’m not sold at all he will be in first grade .
I still think Luke Laulilii will be on one wing , with Olam in the other centre spot . AD will be keeping out Turuva , Skelton , Staines , Naden , Toa , Faatape and so on .
Will that actually happen once the trials are played ? That means Luke is gone and Skelton and Turuva are the wingers . Or Skelton is gone .
I can’t see it .

I'd like to see Luke L trial in the centres now he's a year older and bigger I suppose

I think we have to look at Luke Laulilli as a centre as catching high balls is not his strong point.
On the Adam Doueihi topic I think all that are writing him off are doing it without giving him a chance.
Coming back late last season after his 3rd ACL injury he played a couple of good games from an attacking point of view, sure his defence was below standard, but I’m sure he knows that is where he needs to make a dramatic improvement if he wants to play regular NRL and could make the necessary improvements in 2025.

Not like there are many better options. Kind of sobering when the other options are Naden and the Star man.
So Olam is Injured so 1x Center out.

Turuva wanted to start at Center...

Hence it's:
AD
Bird
Starford Toa
Brent Naden.

I would 100% go Turuva and Bird. Failing that Turuva and Naden, even believing that Naden is better at wing then center....

Yep 3rd best option. We got to ditch these useless backs.

It's been terrible his whole career. At Souths it was overlooked because he was a rookie trying to find his place. Then he played fullback here and we didnt need to see his decision making in the front line. Once he was moved to 6 it became evident the bloke couldn't defend. Still it was overlooked, partially because it coincided with a great highlight reel in attack and partially because many wanted to overpraise him in order to dismiss Brooks. It has only been since his injuries have limited his contribution to the team that everyone now takes issue with his defence.
I do somewhat agree that only he can fix it but i also question how much time since moving to the front line he/the coaching staff have been dedicated to his defence. He has spent a lot of time in rehab with getting his body right a priority over getting his defensive decision-making right. The one off-season he was fit was spent with Sheens' 100 passes a day whilst defence seemingly went out the window.
I'm not a Doueihi fan and never have been but i don't think there is no hope he can greatly improve his defence. I just hope he proves it in reserve grade before earning a first grade spot or worse yet a renewed contract.
He's tackle shy, a grappler. He'd rather stick out a lazy arm .....and that's if he even makes contact with the attacker with how bad his defensive reads are.

However he seems to have no problem being 2nd or 3rd man in.

Can that bad habit be coached out of him at his age?? I highly doubt it BUT would gladly like to be proven wrong.

Give Doueihi a chance????

Zero credibility!

He'll get the opportunity with all the others. I don't rule him out.

Playing Turuva in the centres only weakens the wing. And he’s the best winger at the club. Don’t weaken one position to strengthen another

I thought the updates would be, he has been released and is off to ESL club ……..

Not him playing in the centres. Prob’s one of the worst possible positions for him to play. I would rather see him exiting concord, just don’t think he has what we need and is not NRL capable.

Always happy to be proven wrong and him end up DM centre of the year, but would say there is more chance of me hooking up with Dua Lipa

It’s the only position for him though. Halves are out, so is fullback. And the possibility of him ever transitioning into the forwards has passed. He’s not a winger, despite a few suggestions of turning him into one. It’s basically centre or bust. And considering Bird will be in the forwards, there is a spot there to partner Olam up for grabs. And like I said all he has to compete with is To’a and Naden. To be quite honest, the winner of that centre spot will be the king of turd hill.
