Adam Doueihi #227

He's tackle shy, a grappler. He'd rather stick out a lazy arm .....and that's if he even makes contact with the attacker with how bad his defensive reads are.

However he seems to have no problem being 2nd or 3rd man in.

Can that bad habit be coached out of him at his age?? I highly doubt it BUT would gladly like to be proven wrong.
Agree 100%
Sure if he is given the chance he will do ok in the attacking side of the game but would have no trust in him that his laziness in defence wouldn’t come back to bite us.

His defence is diabolical . I don’t think anyone can debate that . And for a guy who has a great long passing game , he sure doesn’t like to pass when he’s in the centres.
I’ve said this before I thought he had origin level potential with his running game , and intangibles . It doesn’t look like he will get anywhere near that , and it will be an attitude thing . Because defence is an attitude more than anything.
He’s still relatively young though . There’s enough time for him to find a way to rip in in defence . He just needs to lose the aspirations to be a 6 . And rip in as a centre .
It’s strange that someone like lomax , all he wants to do is be a centre , when the jury is still out on him in the centres , and yet someone like AD , where it’s clearly his best position , doesn’t want a bar of it .

Adam Doueihi: our resident magician—able to make effort disappear before your very eyes! AD dazzles with an uncanny ability to avoid both hard yards and key moments. He’s a master of positioning... just not where it counts.

He is always ready to shine during pressers and post-game selfies, yet his on-field performances strike a perfect balance between ‘barely there’ and ‘why bother.’ His defense could be mistaken for interpretive dance, and his passing ability is so elusive it might as well be a rumor.

Off the field, his commitment to dodging criticism is second only to his commitment to dodging hard work. Truly, a shining example of how to coast while convincing the world you’re a “star in the making. If there were a stat for misplaced confidence, he’d be the Dally M Player of the Year.

Seriously, AD's problems are all between his ears. Solve that and he could potentially be salvaged.

Playing Turuva in the centres only weakens the wing. And he’s the best winger at the club. Don’t weaken one position to strengthen another
I don't want to play Turuva at Center. But I understand that he signed on here with a chance at center, whatever that means.

Would vastly prefer to have Turuva and Staines on the wing and make Skelton kick Staines to reserve grade.

Do we have any centres on our roster who fills you with confidence with their defence ?
If we are being optimistic you would think with genuine competition for NRL positions, at least a few of our 2-5 play regularly well enough to make the NRL position their own.

Probably the greatest summary of Douhei of all time.

Gold!

over many a year ,imo the backline (center winger partnership} had no trust in each other,Noffa always rushing infield as an example. Teams such as Storm hold their man 1 on 1 ,with extra cover coming across to plug any gaps, until we can fix those simple things ,defence will basically stay shoddy

My issue is the lack of effort at times . Getting swatted away , and not making the effort in the first place are two different things .

It’s definitely a concern and nobody can deny he’s been a aub standard defender throughout his career.
With that being said it’s near impossible for him to to suddenly become a great defender, but being an egotistical creature I think it would hurt him if being made to play Reserve Grade on a regularly basis, therefore I think there’s a reasonable chance he will put a lot more commitment into defending and become a somewhat reasonable defender in order to keep his position in our NRL side.
Time will tell.

He needs to make centre work this year or i doubt he'll be retained. At best, wouldnt be on anything more than minimum.

AD does have a lot to offer if he can fix that defence, not just attack wise but he's got a great attitude and love for the club.

We’re only one good centre away from him being goneski. He’s just a Band-Aid player at this point.
