Adam Doueihi #227

Adam Doueihi insists he is keen to play centre as he works to repay the Wests Tigers for sticking by him through a horror run of injuries.

Doueihi has previously voiced preferences to play in the halves, even once telling then-coach Brett Kimmorley he would rather be dropped to reserve grade than start elsewhere.

Can he repay us for all the shite D and all the times he hogged the ball instead of putting his winger away, in the form of cold hard cash to all the members. I’d rather that then him take one more dollar from our club to stink it up.

I think he’s smart enough to know that the only chance he’s got is to shut up and put up. I’ve always had a soft spot for him and personally would be happy for him to explode into the right centre/ goal kicker position.
I guess only time will tell with so many positions in 2025, this being one of them.
Trouble with him at right centre is that the right winger wont get the ball in attack. I can't recall seeing AD catch and pass to beat the defence.

There were some tries wasted that's for sure used to cringe when he would throw a dummy or a show and go that nobody was falling for so obvious it should of gone to wing.

Great take on AD. He needs to prove he can defend before he gets a gig in FG again.
We all know that if you play in the centres you better have a great defensive game...didnt he say once he hates tackling...centre may not be his best option to spruik he wants to play...
I dont mind the guy .but I think his fg career may be on the downhill slide...

I think it all comes back to how the team is travelling
Middle of the range players can look like superstars in a winning team
BUT
When in a struggling team quite the opposite all of their flaws are there for all to see.
Doueihi seems to drop his head and give up when things aren’t going his way,
Where others grit their teeth and try harder.
Attitude
Somethings you can’t teach you are born with it or not.

He can't hold his line though can he? He either pushes way too far up, or he turns too far in. Both create carnage in our defensive line.
If he is going to make it back to FG maybe he could do it as a winger. Less to think about in defence, he can catch a ball in defence and attack and he doesn't have to pass (often). The trouble is that he is afraid of contact in defence - not something you can overcome this late in the game without a lot of hard work as most of the issue is attitude. At this stage I think he's a good reserve grader with too many tickets on himself; needs to prove that he is up to his own hype before he is anything else

Much like the rest of the team, Douehi just needs to run all day at training and get fit.

I've seen him make some good reads in D and then under fatigue, forget all structures and rush up when not required, or mark the wrong person or miss a simple one on one tackle.

Get fit and see how you go with decision making when not under fatigue the whole time.

Maybe if we booked him in for some shock therapy that could reset the dumb ideas.
The only way to get rid of the dumb ideas is to release him ASAP. I'd personally put him at lock or second row in NSW Cup, get him making 30-40 tackles a game and 100m+ in attack. Let him show his professionalism and desire and not keep hiding thinking he's a superstar.

That will soon test if his future remains in the NRL.

While you may be correct he’s certainly not a left centre. His natural inclination is to the right.
And getting him to tackle and draw/pass is also part of the coaching function. Weaknesses like that must be isolated and corrected by the coaching staff and the player.

Agree re attitude but not re skills, which can be learnt by correct attention to the problem and then repetition.
And sometimes if your skills improve, so does your attitude.
I think a similar thing applies to Star.

To me the 3 points would show me he is team 1st rather than hero/self 1st.

I doubt he has it in him consistently to do it but hope I’m wrong if he is playing in the centers.
