Adam Doueihi #227

I honestly don’t get the love for Doueihi at fullback. He as slow as a wet week, and his positional play at fullback is terrible. With the two tries from kicks Cronulla scored today he was nowhere to be seen. He doesn’t seem to be a typical supporting playing fullback either.

I can’t see him as fullback in a premiership winning team.

What am I missing? Can someone enlighten me in what they see in him please.

I gave him a pass mark on the back of his second half effort though that was mainly based on attack. Still, he was poor on both those occasions as you stated. Not that he definitely would have stopped it, but wasn't within cooee for the Dugan out wide one, where he should have been trailing across and for the one back through near the ruck, he was in front of the ball running across the back, providing an obvious inside kick option for any eyes up playmakers.

Don't agree. Both the Cronulla tries off kicks were down our right side. Doueihi was nowhere to be seen because that isn't his territory. If you're going to blame someone for those tries look at Nofoaluma.

Disagree. Cronulla's kicking game was smart in that they were going a couple of passes wide before the kick which (along with BJ constantly racing up at no-one) drew Nofa up opening space behind him. He can't be up in the line & back covering kicks, it is the fullback's role to get across in cover for those sort of kicks, which he did well once when taking the ball into touch from a dangerous kick.

Thank you ...saved Typing...

Dugan's 1st TRY came from a very smart kick by Graham not on tackle 5 the edge was defending as the should in a line..Leilua rushed up and Nofoaluma went with him...this made it easy for Graham but it was still a great play..very hard to defend as Doueihi was in feild from the previous play

The second came on the 5th Tackle which Cronulla started their attack on the right...Nofoaluma dropped back like every single winger in the NRL does to get in position to defend a kick on the last..they ran it..Leilua... Dugan's man went up and took no one..leaving Marshall and Nofoaluma to attempt to stop him..they couldn't..

I'm all for criticising Nofoaluma (see Knights game) but it gets frustrating when a team scores a TRY down that side and it's a simple out to heap all the blame on Nofoaluma..

Doueihi warmed into the game ..more game time they get together the better they'll get..

The kicks stopped coming in the second half , and I did notice that Doueihi was a little shallower , when defending . Maybe that’s 1 of the adjustments that were made . MYbe the original gameplan wasn’t to field that shallow because of townsends kicking game . They pivoted are half time , of which Cronulla didn’t score a point.

What do you mean that isn’t his territory? He is fullback it should be his territory. The good ones anticipate and will cover those types of kicks.

Correct it has always been a fullbacks job to cover kicks behind his wingers as he can usually get there first to cover the kick.

I reckon he looks like he is going to slot into the fullback spot for us really well. He has a lot to work on in particular I think his cover defence needs to improve a lot. Still he looked like making busts out there regularly and he was safe under the high ball.

Not his best first half, but he looks a class above our other options. I love Thommo, but who do you feel is most likely to catch a bomb?

I feel comfortable with Doueihi at the back....a lot moreso than Thompson. He just seems to do things easier where Thompson seems to be busting his gut even to make the simple plays.....
Having said that though I would rather Thompson on the wing over Jennings.....

When the attacking team kicks in side the 10, they usually try to kick away from or trick the fullback. Only Tedesco seems to be able to be in the right place every time, the man is a freak and may have a teleporter.

I feel at ease with him under a high ball

Got a better step and height reach over thompson

Adam was great at the back,,,no errors lots tackle busts and beating first man most times...and crucial offloads.Give him time he will improve more. Also one of the only Tigers that Anasta wrapped in commentary lol

I just hope he has a lot of improvement in him. Lot’s of areas looked poor to me. So I still think the only plus is his height. But I’ll give him a few more weeks and see how he goes.

You don’t count stepping out as an error or poor positional play?

The longer the game went the better Doueihi looked I though. Looked good running the footy. Positioning will improve the more he plays there he’s still only played a handful of games at the back

I think I would give him more than 1 game at full back for us before dropping on him from a great height.

New rules for the game of Rugba League, new club, half a new spine - hard marker Mike.

Thought he was above average myself and he will get a lot better.

I guess we’ve been spoilt with great fullbacks over the years. Not calling for him to be dropped, that would be unreasonable. Just trying to understand what others see that I don’t so far. Happy to give him more time.

Douehihi looked dangerous every time he ran the ball back. I believe he is still learning the position but is far and away our best fullback option. He will grow into the position and to me looks a natural fit .

Does anyone see Adam as a future Captain of our club? His got the qualities and the intellect of a Capt from what I’ve seen and more importantly from what I’ve heard in his media interviews.

He has very good leadership qualities and he’s still only very young. Could develop into a good captain
