Interesting examples of "identifying young talent".
Agree with Benji, brought through the Keebra system which apparently McDonnell was involved with.
Tedesco is born in Ryde to a family that has sponsored Balmain for decades and moved to Narellan, played for Camden Rams and went to St Gregs, played Wests juniors since 15. Hardly "identified or found".
Moses was a Tigers junior, born in Ryde and played for Holy Cross & Carlingford but rather than being "identified or found" was allowed to be poached by Parra but Parra cut him and we signed him after Harold Matts.
Genuinely dont see any incredible work here.
Wasn't Tedesco and his family, always roosters fans?
I'm sure that's a narrative that has been pushed before.
He and his Dad are/were Roosters fans, all his Uncles and extended family (italian/maltese) are Balmain/Tigers fans.
Makes sense.
Thanks for clarifying....
Knew there was some media spin when he signed saying it was his dream to play for the roosters or something.
Ive told this story many times here. I was talking to his Uncle (Balmain sponsor) about Teddy before he had debuted in first grade and there was a lot of speculation about him leaving and he hadnt signed a Contract with us yet. I was asking his Uncle whether he was going to sign and he told me then that Teddy had no loyalty to the club and wanted to be a Rooster. At the time basically he was going to stay only because it was the "right thing" after his early injuries.

Did he have a lot of injuries in the juniors as well?

With Sheens being made head of football I understand that Hartigan's job has then been made redundant but he should at least be involved in some capacity within the club in identifying and recruiting young talent (a field in which he's shown to be more than competent). And for Sheens to let go of Hartigan and bring back McDonnell... let me just say it's not been a great start to Sheens' return for me
Why are people so surprised. Personally I don’t know how anyone thinks bringing Sheens back is a good thing for the WestsTigers Brand must have short memories?

From memory, the ACL injury in his debut, wasnt his first. Yes he had significant injuries prior to debut.

This is a logical result given Hartigan was the GM of Football (why would he stay once his role was gutted). The club has stated it is all in on juniors so it doesn’t feel like the strategy is going to deviate greatly. Isn’t this what we all wanted? Change?

Agreed...we need more Tom's and Harry's. But we have enough Dick's already.

But guys who have a closer relationship to the club than others...
@willow @cochise @NT_Tiger @Geo and any one else...?
The clubs been patient but how likely is it we see some wholesale changes after such poor seasons?
Surely Madge is not safe even if they portray this in the United front which they have been doing...
For us outsiders, what's the likelihood or are the club not transparent with this stuff with the fans?
Really good question @demps Honestly I doubt they make a change at coach. I have been told time and again that there won't be a change.
Personally I would like to see a change at coach, the issue is who is the replacement? In my opinion every option comes with massive issues and isn't a high percentage chance of improving the club.
I would be looking at Gardiner with a lot of support from really strong assistants, I'm talking about people who have NRL experience i.e Dean Pay as a defensive coach, strong input from Sheens. Hartigan and Gardiner have a really strong relationship and will complement each other well and both have a good focus on development and pathways. The issue is he is not a big name so would he be able to help in fixing the issue of recruiting high profile players? I don't think so, so Sheens input in those discussions would be critical.
It is a really tough position to be in as a club and their is no quick fix to this mess.
I would love to see that scenario play out. I think Gardiner surrounded by top assistants with Sheens overseeing things would be a revelation.
Gardiner wont be here if Madge is sacked.
Why do you think that?
Sure there is a souths connection but he is also tight with Hartigan. Said it himself...
https://youtu.be/RRWcsMCDAWE
They are close. He’s also NZ assistant if I’m correct. He’s not equiped for the job it’s one that very few can do. I hate the agenda being driven but Flanagan is easily the best option maybe Ciraldo but he’s be dumb to even think about taking it as a sought after rookie head coach.
Flanagan get take a long walk on a short pier.
You forgot the besser block attached to his ankle ....
